My damned ear buds keep breaking. For those athletes as TNF, Conan, Ed W, RM, what do you recommend? I have an iPhone, but I can buy something else.

I have a tiny Sansa 1gig mp3 player, Guido, but I haven't had much success with either the OEM ear buds or the expensive Bose ones that came as a gift at Christmas.  I'm thinking about a lightweight headset.  Sony makes one and it's supposed to sound OK.

Ear buds are uncomfortable as all hell, but I generally try to keep one in and one ear open for traffic and other impending danger so I don't use them in both, unless I'm on stationary equipment at the house.  I use an iPod Nano BTW when I'm on the fly.

I have gone through 4 sets of ear buds and two headsets in 6 months. Maybe I'll try the nano.

I use a pair of over the ear buds.  They have a glasses style arm that holds them on the ear and then the bud fits perpendicular in the ear.  Allows for hearing outside noise.  I've had them for several years and love them.  Mine are Sony.

Ear buds are uncomfortable as all hell,

I have the same feeling with most, even the kind that have silicone earpieces rather than the standard hard plastic+foam deal, but the ones that came with my Galaxy Nexus are actually pretty darn comfortable. (they are the silicone kind, but more comfortable than most)

I think the best setup involves a stereo bluetooth headset like this Plantronics and whatever cellphone I've been using lately either attached with an armband, in my pocket, or on my bike depending on where I'm going/what exactly I'm doing. I don't keep earbuds in my ear when riding, but I will keep one next to my ear such that I can still easily hear outside noises.

I freakin' hate wires snaking down to my pocket or where ever.

On the rare occasion I do move at a rapid pace outdoors, I use a motorola bluetooth headset. The earplugs are rubber and it wraps around the back of your head. Very low weight, doesn't fall off, very durable.

I bought some Sony buds, so we'll see.

I need to splurge and just go this route. After all, I am now flush with cash thanks to waterboy.... :P

I paid like $30 on ebay. Thought you had richer blood than that.

Same here, I've had the same pair for a few years. Sweat doesn't bother them. $9.99 at Target

I'll go for those after these ear buds quit working. I may just go all out with top of the line stuff.

So far, so good. Hey, has anyone noticed it's getting hot outside? Just sayin...

The temperature for my lunch walk wasn't too bad, about 85.  The dewpoint was typical summer though, about 71.
