Isn't 28 years on the TMAPC long enough?

Just glancing at the members of the TMAPC, and wondering why Gail Carnes has been serving on the planning commission since 1984?  Isn't 28 years a long time to exert influence like that?  Aren't republicans generallly in favor of term limits over lifetime appointments?

I don't have a specific gripe against Mr Carnes (well, aside from the typical TMAPC lack of imagination and an overly narrow developer-centric perspective).  Just wondering.  Really?  There's nobody else in town to fill the role and bring in some fresh perspectives?

If I were a YP, I'd be sort of worried about someone who had been making these decisions about Tulsa's future longer than I had been alive!

Anybody remember 1984?

I agree. I don't know the fine details about how TMAPC appointments are made or the reconfirmation process (if there even is one), but a lifetime appointment to a post that is intended to drive the city forward seems counter-intuitive to say the least. Do they have set terms? If so, are the terms staggered? Or do they have their post as long as they want it?

And perhaps you don't have any particular gripes about any one member right now, but those people's voting records on zoning/land use issues (for the past 30 years, apparently) aren't exactly easy to access.

Change never happened because people were happy with the status quo.

1984?  Seems like yesterday.  When I read Orwell's "1984", it was still years in the future.  Are you guys old enough to post?

:D

Wow.  I'm one time married, one time divorced.  I've been liberated now for 19 years.  I had one other try and rope me back into that mess in 1997.  I almost fell for it.  Glad I didn't.

Marriage is the leading cause of divorce.
