Climbing Real Estate Prices Force Blue Dome Diner To Close
TULSA, Oklahoma -

A downtown Tulsa favorite is closing its doors, at least for now.

The Blue Dome Diner has been at its current location on Second Street between Elgin and Detroit Avenues for years.

Brian Preitt has operated the diner for six years, in the same spot that housed the legendary Route 66 Diner.

But, he said, real estate prices are changing downtown and he just can't keep up.

"Either you're selling $15 plate of eggs or an $8 plate of eggs," he said. "It just depends on what, where you value what you're spending on where you work, you know?"

The Blue Dome Diner will close July 29.

Preitt said he's looking for another location but hasn't found anything yet.

Guess who the property owner is. This is complete and utter bullshit. He said that they aren't renewing the lease. What are you going to do Sager, gut the blue dome diner and then forget how to finish a project again? If this restaurant sucked I definitely wouldn't care, but instead I am livid.

Correctomundo EP. The Penguin strikes again.

The Penguin found somebody who will pay for all the improvements.

I am sure it's top secret. There's going to be too many restaurants chasing too few dollars if you ask me.

And It's Prewitt not Preitt.

I've been there a few times with a club I belong to.  It was nice but not spectacular.  Unfortunately, this comes under the category of unintended consequences.  We want development downtown.  That drives up property values.  That drives up rents. That makes a plate of eggs cost $15 instead of $8.  People are supposed to be willing to pay a premium price to do things downtown.  Evidently, Tulsa isn't ready to pay $15 for a plate of eggs.

I'm still disappointed to see it go.

Next step will be for someone to have the bright idea to get rid of some of those old buildings so we can put up some nice shiny new ones.....

I guess we could just pass a law preventing shysters like Sager from owning property...

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

Blue Dome is joining the ranks of restaurants which are gone but not forgot...It's a shame.  Maybe they can put a nice Quick Trip in there?  ;)

I'm gonna miss the great breakfasts, fantastic music, mismatched plates and silverware.  An IHOP, it's not...RIP, BD...

Where have you been?  Those buildings will become surface parking after the moratorium ends.

OK legal eagles, can zoning laws require a type of appearance of a new building?  Some other type of law?

This really does suck. Great food and a great value. Loved their breakfast.

What other downtown place can compete as far as offering an awesome breakfast? Dilly Deli is the complete opposite of this place. Small portions and high prices (but now you can pay for cereal at a restaurant!).

Hopefully Atlas Grill comes back from its brunch hiatus. It may be my only remaining hope for downtown breakfast.

The buildings not going down. Yokazuma has a long term lease.

And you can't just take property, Heir.

...but you can use Eminent Domain to build a McDonalds...

Sager has got a new tenant...

Purportedly, they are willing to pay a shut ton more in rent and will be making $800,000 in tenant improvements to the property... $800K is a lot of cash for a build out in that existing structure. That sounds like a gut job with big backers. Makes me wonder if it's a chain.

Sager gave him 30 days notice, classy. Brian's a nice guy and the whole thing pisses me off but that's capitalism...

Just wish we'd go after Sager to get our cash back on the ghost lofts.

Not much to gut except up front.

I was never impressed with their food but had vendors from DC that loved it so they always took us there.

It would be nice if the city would refuse to issue a permit to him to do anything else downtown until he finishes his lofts.

Could the city do this?  Since he has used public funds it would be nice for the city to step in and say "no"... I know that probably isn't a possibility but it sure would be nice.

With that kind of jack its a shame they don't build.

There are three empty buildings east of McNellies/Albert G's. What's wrong with those?
