Probably a quicker change keeping up with the times I'd imagine.  If they'd done this in the '80's or '90's,they might not've gotten smacked about so much.

Never actually having the policy would've been a way to go.

Fair enough but it is what it is. The current leadership as much as they may want could do little to change what happened when the club was founded. All they can do is move forward.

You're the one who was being dismissive of people's criticism while going on about it being "just a private club." That's a pretty strong implication. You might want to choose your words more carefully.

They could have saved even more grief if they had dissolved the club decades ago and put up a shopping center or housing development.  Where do you want to draw the line?
