Here is the wording on the list...

City of Tulsa - Oklahoma State University-Tulsa medical school, $5 million
City of Tulsa - University of Oklahoma-University of Tulsa medical school, $5 million
City of Tulsa - OSU Medical Center, $2.5 million

The OU-TU school is in the Hartford building. I love that there will be lots of college students just across the parking lot from all the Blue Dome restaurants and shops. It will become a real anchor to the east end of downtown. Same with keeping the OSU medical center open in southwest downtown. We need the facility open.

I wasn't aware of the OSU-Tulsa medical school. Does anybody have any insight?

We clearly need more medical professionals. Many doctors are nearing retirement age and I love the idea that Tulsa could become a hub for medical learning.

Is the OSU-Tulsa medical school question the DO program you are pointing out already in place? Or it TU doing something new? I am hearing most about the OU-TU connection.
Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

Yes, we clearly need more medical professionals but these projects seem worthy of larger dedicated bond indentures. Grouping them into a tax package does not settle their issues.

DING! DING! DING!

We have a winner!

$2.5 million wouldn't even begin to address the myriad of issues in the OSU medical center.  It's been punted around and wrapped up in duct tape to hold it together.

This is obviously the higher education hook in the package.  I'd rather see $12.5mm spent on attracting student housing for OSU Tulsa near Standpipe Hill.

OSU-Tulsa medical school is a confusing way for them to word it as it implies a TU connection - it's the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine over on the west side of the river, it's been there forever.  OSU Medical Center is the hospital inside the loop downtown, which is the teaching hospital most closely associated with OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine.

I would like to share an experience with you all about drinking and driving.

As you well know some of us have been known to have had rare brushes with the authorities on our way home from the odd social session over the years.
A couple of nights ago I was out for a few drinks with some friends and had a few too many beers and some shots.  Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit I did something I've never done before?

I took a bus home.  Sure enough, I passed a DUI checkpoint, but as it was a bus they waved it through.

I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise, as I have never driven a bus before and am not sure where I got it!

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

And back on topic.... are we sure we need more doctors??  "Statistics show...."

Doctors

(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is about 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are about 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. Of Health and Human Services.

Now there is this:

Guns

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is about 80,000,000.  (Yes, that's 80 million - and probably more.)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is about 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .0000188

Statistics courtesy of FBI.

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.  Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'

FACT: Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has at least one doctor.  This means you are over 9,000 times more likely to be killed by a doctor as by a gun owner!!!

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat!  We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!

Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on Lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

Truth is the fruit of the tree of knowledge.  Brought to you by the internet.

It is decided - I'm gonna buy a bus!  I just can't stand not being able to participate and make a contribution when we have those ozone alert days!  They recommend taking the bus on those days, so I am gonna get one to have by next summer to be ready for the next ozone season.  I WILL take the bus on ozone alert days!!  I WILL do my part to help solve the problem!!   (Anybody want a ride??)

Looks like it may be an International Loadstar 1600.  Mid 70's vintage.  Looks kind of like the one at the bottom of this page.  Except white instead of bus yellow.

So if we double the number of Doctors to 1,400,000 we would lose 240,000 per year.  Maybe we need less Doctors.

It doesn't work that way.  Other people have to get their own bus.

The more people we have taking the bus, the better our air will be.

I bet if several of us did that, parking downtown could get really messed up.  What effect would an extra 30 or 40 buses have on parking??  This could be fun...

Red, I added (modified) that first bus post with a link...

Just plain white?  How boring.
