Daytime television

Normally I'm at work through all this, but I'm noticing that daytime TV has actually improved.  Oh sure, there's a plethora of shows featuring the chattering class giving some version of soft news - pablum for the masses.  There are old movies and retro TV shows, some of them woefully bad.

But this morning I came across a gem, "Flaxy Martin," a film noir piece from the late 1940s.  The bad guys were very bad.  The good guy was only a little better and they all wore fedoras and smoked incessantly.  Huge fun!

If it wasn't for the History Channel, Discovery, and all the weapons porn on the Military Channel, I'd probably go insane.

Still, I don't think I've watched anything all the way through.  These painkillers 'occasionally' cause drowsiness, meaning that in my case, I fall asleep like someone threw a switch.

Not all is good, however.  Yesterday, I napped through this one:

DVR "Mankind The Story of All of Us" On the History channel. It has been fantastic from the very first episode. They spent a whole lot of Money on the production of this series. It looks awesome in High Def.

And the best Game Show on in the afternoon is "Let's ask America" Channel 2 at 2:30. I DVR it everyday.

I get all the soap operas mixed up. I think they all live in the same town and just haven't met each other yet.

I like some of the old game shows myself- I wish they would bring them back, some of the old game shows were a real hoot like "Match Game"- Gene Rayburn was the host on that show, he's long since dead. They don't useually re-run old game shows.

Game Show Network does. I think that Match Game comes on at 10:00 A.M. our time. They also show old Press your Luck, Password and a lot of others.

If you need something to do, I got plenty for people who are currently planted on their @sses. That's where I normally work from.

I'm staying as busy as I want to be, Guido.  I've picked up a regular writing gig with a magazine, and there are always ghost writing opportunities available.  When I stick with subjects I know well, the writing goes quickly.  It doesn't bring in much money, but it keeps my mind engaged.

Writing fiction is more fun.  It's immensely pleasurable and more than slightly addicting when the words just 'flow' from my fingertips into the keyboard. Some stories seem to write themselves.  It keeps me coming back in an effort to make it happen again.  And it makes up for those times when every single word is a struggle to type.

If you have something in mind, feel free to contact me.

Well there's a softball if there ever was one.

As for my solicitation, just ignore. Enjoy the R&R. My deal, which was far less invasive and disruptive than yours. took all of one day to get past. Of course, I do sit on my aox for a living.

Well, so do I, Guido.  I push electrons around for a living, sitting at a bench in an office chair that rolls between work stations.  That chair has a lot of miles on it!

Have you had to re-tire the chair?   :D

A skill I don't have.  I had to take "creative writing" in summer school after 5th grade to get passed to 6th grade.  I'm still no good at making up stories.  (In spite of what some of you may think.)

Yep.  The original wheels wore out, or more precisely, the bearing above them was worn down to the point of uselessness.  We stock replacement wheels, but I could locate only 4 of them.  These chairs have 5, so if I sit in the right position, the chair cants to one side.  It encourages me to get up and down a lot, and that's actually good for my legs and back.

Good office chairs are expensive, and since these are designed to dissipate static electricity, they're even more expensive.
