Unless you have a seriously skewed definition of middle class, (most likely) the only thing that changed for you is that you're now paying the full ride for FICA again. There had been a temporary holiday on part of the Social Security part of the payroll tax, which expired December 31, so your tax rate effectively increased 2%. (less if you make more than $113,700)

Your income tax withholding should not have changed.

My Federal witholding did.  They took out about 10 dollars less on my first paycheck of the year.  However, my SS Tax went up about 40 dollars.

Payroll tax went up, of course.
Fed Inc Tax (withholding) went down $0.57
Medicare Tax went down $0.03
State Inc Tax (withholding) went down $1.00

Simple question and I am told by Nathanm that I am ( most likely) skewed? How's this, over 80k less than 150k. does that define middle class ? Looking for your "expert" opinion on my most likely skewed view of what middle class is.

I didn't come to bash Obama or the idiots running the House, I wanted to know if anyone else saw the drop in pay as I did.

What they are saying is that every person regardless of income had their FICA tax go up.  So did your taxes go up?  Do you get paid a salary for something?  Then yes your taxes went up.  They were reading more into it because your question only has 1 question for anybody who works.  Yes

Um, it's Nathanm. You asked a very simple question: "Did your taxes go up?"  The answer is "Yes". Now, if you asked "Why did my taxes go up" or "Please insult me for asking a serious question?", then Nathanm's post might be useful.
Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

. . .or if you wanted to discuss the definition of "taxes," or "up". . .or "your" . . .perhaps even "Did."

I fall in the same category as you on base salary and my federal withholding was actually lower in my first paycheck of 2013, and yes, they withheld 2.0% more in SS than last year, but I expected that.

Same here.  Last year I would have been considered homeless.   ;D
