I was in attendance at the meeting where he made his announcement this morning and he clearly stated that he had, had a heart procedure a while back (which he had told me of previously) and that his family wanted him to retire immiediately but he wanted to provide for an orderly transition.  It was obviously a tough choice for one who has been a good and very involved Commissioner.

He also stated that he was making the request to the Governor to hold the special election so that it coincided with the City of Tulsa Mayoral Election as a way of reducing the time to a minimum when the office would be vacant.

He will be missed, he's been a very good study of issues.

Commissioner, have a great retirement!

I agree that he will be missed. I think he has done a good job in keeping the County working.

Sorry to hear about his heart troubles. I hope he gets well.

I'd a thought the pope would have quit before this guy threw in the towel...
