Race Events

Now that the weather broke and it's warm, anyone on this forum run in the Tatur 50 mile race on July 6th or know anyone who did? That was one grueling event, I watched some of it Saturday morning as the race was finishing up. The runners were exausted.. I plan to enter a few  races this summer and fall. I was surprised they did not do the "Hungar 5K Run" this year. The "Route 66 CPA" is a fun event this year it's on September 14th  I entered that race every year since I moved here, it's a flat fast course around Chapman Statium, another running event I enjoy is the "Run To The Son" 5K put on by the Parkview Baptist Church, it's a flat course for the most part with some long grade hills Tulsa has alot of racing events lined up this year. Do we have alot of runners posting here?

Those long races like the 50 mile ultra marathons are tuff endurance races the real goal is  to test your ability and just to be able to cross the finish line in the end makes you a winner. They have some 100 mile races thru death valley, those have got to be tuff races to do. Anyhow, during that 50 mile race around the RiverSide Trails runners reported seeing all sorts of animals from skunks to armidillos during the night. I believe 131 runners entered that race and everyone finished. Congrads to everyone who ran that 50-miler!

The Riverside 5000 race is coming up August 17th. The first event at 7:30 am  is geared toward top dog runners who can do  a 5K in 17:00 or less for men and 20:00 for women. Top dog runners against top dog runners that should be a good race to watch. Cash prizes go to the fastest runners. That should really be a fast racing event. Then at 8:am they will do a regular 5K event for all us regular runners. The cost to enter is $25.00 on race day.

There's also a 100 mile footrace in Leadville, Colorado the week after the 104 mile mountain bike race I'm doing there again this year.  50 miles out to the ghost town of Winfield over Sugarloaf Pass and Hope Pass all between 9500 and 12,500 ft. MSL.  Runners have 30 hours to finish the race.  12 hours of brutality on a mountain bike is plenty for me, I have no desire to be on my feet that long.

They have what they call the "Leadman" which involves competing in the marathon at the end of June, a 50 mile foot or mountain bike race this coming weekend, the 104 mile MTB race, a 10K the day after that race, then the footrace the week following.  There's about 20-30 people a year who attempt this, most are successful.

I guess some people are really into those long grueling race events- I don't care for 'em. I like the regular old fashioned races, from the 5K up to the 26.2 mile marathon.

I'm looking forward to the RiverSide 5000 event that should really be good to watch a lot of fast impressive running, some of those top dog runners could be around the 5 minute mile mark or  better in that "elite" event.. There are a lot of races coming up in August. I'll be entered in the 8:am 5K event us regular slow runners.
