USAToday will double in price on Sept 30, going to $2per copy. This supposedly aligns the paper with other national publications. It's probably good news for both birdcage liners out of OKC and Tulsa.

May you live in interesting times.

Amazed that papers are still paper.

Your hotel room now costs $1 more.

Your hotel also has a lot of other free stuff
   "free" parking
   "free" continental breakfast
   "free" wifi
   "free" toiletries
   etc

But why no "free" condom on the pillow at night?

Does it come with a free maid?
Oh wait. Then it wouldn't be free. Never mind.

Hotels charge at market rate, not at cost plus.  That's why you get "free" Wifi, parking, and breakfast at, say, a $100 Hampton Inn, but not at a $250 JW Marriott.   A one-dollar increase in cost does not equal a one-dollar increase in price.

Economics of scale?
The more freebies and the hotel offers, the cheaper the rate?
Bottom line: the hotel doesn't get the stuff for free, they're passing the cost on to the guest.

The whole hotel pricing thing is very elastic.  Have stayed in the same hotel - same floor - and paid from $104 to $178 per night.  Even the same week, have had two rates on the room depending on night.  Kind of like airline ticket pricing...

Same hotel is now only avail at $255.  So I go to a "new" Hilton two blocks away....1875 bldg nicely redone.  $114 a night.  Worse restaurant, though.

I had a subscription to it back in the 80s. I never saw who threw that in my driveway. It was like it fell from the sky and just appeared. My renewal would be a envelope attached with no name on it but a USA Today address. Very weird.

I can't remember how much that it was but I do know that it was not that expensive. And my big draw was the National sports and the color pictures.  ;D
