Anyone fight a speeding ticket without an attorney? Or rather just check options

I received a speeding ticket yesterday (creek county, sapulpa division) its been years and years since I received one and it actually wasn't even in Oklahoma.  Anyways, I'm not actually trying to dispute the ticket, just see what my options might be.  I called an attorney and he said he usually gets them deferred for a few months and then dropped off the record, but he wanted $350 to do that on top of everything else.  Couldn't I just go to the DA and ask for a deferment plan on my own and avoid paying someone else $350 to ask for me?

Anyone have any experience with tickets and knowing options?

What are you trying to accomplish?  Keep points off your driving record and keep your insurance premium from going up?  How much is the fine?

If it's speeding and it's less than 10 miles over the limit, your insurance won't be affected.

Points... Insurance.... You nailed it.  And it was 19 over with a fine of $241.50.

You were at the borderline of 20 over the posted speed which in most states is a felony, and they can take you to jail over it. If it's a speeding ticket, pay the fine and shut up. You could have been cited for wreckless driving, felony speeding, wreckless endangerment, automatic suspension of your license, impound of your car, it's basically one step below a DUI/DWI.

Very constructive, thank you for you time.  Telling me what a ticket I didn't get qualifies as is about as relevant as me telling you what could have happened if you rear ended someone at a stop sign if you didn't stop and just kept going.

I punched someone a while back to.... why don't you tell me what would have happened if I killed him and was charged with it also.

Besides, if the programs are there in place I'm going to use them.

If you don't like the programs (deferments, etc...) don't get mad at people utilizing them, get mad at the system that created them.

Were you really only 19 over the limit or did the officer maybe cut you a couple of MPH break?  Was it RADAR or LIDAR? Did the tech who calibrated it make it read at the slow end of the tolerance band?  For the most part, I don't mind people speeding a few MPH as long as they are not endangering others.  I don't know you, your driving skills or the car you drive so I cannot evaluate the threat you may have posed to others. Those who want to go fast need to be willing to pay the price in tickets and insurance.

Well, you sound like a fan of the guy that stuffed a Mustang into a 2nd floor apartment at Eton Square, and your hero's are the streetracers  in OKC that think street racing is a right.

You got a break on a ticket, and it sounds like you don't want to take responsibility for it. And before you preach to me, I got my first, and last drag racing ticket from TPD in 1980, at the cost of $200.00 (1980 dollars) and 6 points on my license. After that I grew up and took my racing to Hallett and Tulsa Int'l Drag Strip.

Creek County...

I always heard if you were really guilty, try to get your case transferred to Creek County. The judges there were always approachable.

Isn't Creek County were the penis pump judge worked?

Yes it is Mike. But would you really want to "approach" him?  ;D

In the past I have plead no contest, and that gets you a court date. Then I apply for a court date extension (usually they give you 3 months). after that i show up to court, and if the officer who gave you your ticket does't show up, the ticket gets automatically dropped. Iv'e gotten out of four tickets this way.

And if he does show up. What size book do they throw at you?

Pretty sure they can't add charges at that point?  Worst case is the fine and court costs.  I got out of a ticket the same way.  Officer didn't show up.  (In my case I had a legitimate argument, but I never got a chance to use it.)

Maybe no more charges can be filed but there is a copy of Webster's Unabridged Dictionary that they throw at you just for wasting the court's time.
