Sheesh.  Bullets are still cheap. What could be more humane than "BANG! YOURE DEAD."

The Navy has a new ship mounted laser cannon that cost a frazillion dollars.  Next, we will be buying these to "humanely" execute prisoners.

Actually, I have the best idea. . .We're currently executing thousands of foreigners with hellfire missiles. They can't even see it coming, heck they don't even get a trial or know they are "on the list." Super duper humane!  We should just ask President Obama to turn his attentions to our convicted murderers.  You know, the ones who were tried and convicted by a jury of their piers before being sentenced to death.  You wouldn't even need to tell them when it's coming, just let them hit the yard for a smoke break, and POOF.  It would be a great way for the president to redeem himself too, because he would still get the thrill of killing folks regularly, but it would be legal, and there wouldn't' be any pesky little kids blowed up.

Why are conservatives so bloody-minded and hell-bent on killing people?

Interesting you say that.  Missouri's governor, Jay Nixon, is a Democrat.  Seems we put quite a few to sleep when Brad Henry was the Guv as well.  I've never really seen it as a conservative vs. liberal issue, actually.  Plenty of prisoners are put down in blue states as well as red ones.

As a matter of fiscal conservatism, the death penalty is a rip-off to tax payers.  I'm no fan due to that and the fact that innocent people have been sent to death row by unscrupulous prosecutors and mis-led jurors.  Barry Scheck's Innocence Project has gotten quite a few innocent people off death row.

You know this type of hyperbole is what turns people off and destroys whatever credibility your often well reasoned rants build? Don't you?

I too am against the death penalty, primarily on fiscal grounds.  Also, I believe "if you testify against Mr. X we won't seek the death penalty" is paramount of blackmail with a death threat and leads to unjust convictions (read:  criminals will lie and throw someone else under the bus).  As Conan pointed out, there is also of course the "sliding scale" of justice.  How many innocent people are you will to execute to retain the death penalty?  1/100?  1/1000?  Statistically it happens - what's our thresh hold?

All that said - we have gotten far too elaborate on our execution methods.  If someone is duly sentenced to death - a well done hanging or firing squad should suffice.  Lethal injection, when done right, should be simple too.  Anesthesia, then a massive dose of damn near anything (morphine, heroine, people die all the time from these things).  I don't think any of those is cruel or unusual if done correctly.  Saudi Arabia lops off heads, the in public intersections part is a bit far, but couldn't we fly in their guy?  /half sarcastic

Wyoming is considering going back to firing squads:

Good idea. Everyone gets a real bullet except one. I think the number of shooters should be 5. And Torso shots would do just fine. Makes for easy clean up. No cigarette or blind fold. To Hollywood cliche. BANG! DONE! next?

I thought it drew a fairly disturbing contrast.

We have groups willing to come out against the death penalty for a guy who rapes and murders American children, even though he was given a trial and multiple appeals, but those same groups will remain silent when we blow up entire groups of people because we suspect they may want to kill Americans or have ties to other people who want to kill Americans, or perhaps were just standing next to the wrong guy.

Want another interesting contrast?
We execute around 50 of the more than 3,000 death row prisoners a year. A total of 1,264 since the reinstatement of the death penalty in 1976.

Since taking office, President Obama has ordered 480 executions a year. A total of 2,400 since 2008. Sure, I'll admit, some of those were not actually ordered by the president, they were just kids playing in the wrong street and the wrong time, or family members attending the same event.

I don't know why it's so hard for you to discern the difference between steps taken to prosecute and punish a defendant for past crimes and steps taken to mitigate or end ongoing threats to the United States as part of an ongoing conflict.

Oh, wait, yes I do. Obama.

Is there some declaration of war that I am unaware of?
Is this a military conflict or an executive branch CIA operation?

I'm just making a contrast. Obama said it himself, he's really good at killing people. Why not use that gift to solve what has obviously become a domestic problem?  Seems reasonable.  ;)

Or

Just buy bullets.  A crate of 3,000 should be enough to take care of all of the death-row folks in the country.  Total price $2,670.  Certainly cheaper than a Hellfire, those babies cost $70,000 each!

It cost even more to let a guy like this sit for 25 years with appeal after appeal. And then find a loop hole to get out of his execution on a technicality because it may cause him pain while being "Killed"  ::)

Aaaaand that's why the death penalty is a complete rip off.  In addition to free legal access for all those appeals which is paid for by taxpayers, it also costs more to house prisoners on death row than general population.

Life with no parole is the best solution for creeps like this one.
