Demo's 18 to 30...I'm well out of there.

What?  No blood-spattered Kent State sweatshirt for you?

Nah, I'm not a fan of Ohio.

They might want to stock ISIS shirts. They seem to be pretty popular.

They sell vinyl, so if they have a record I want that I can't get at a local shop I'll buy from them versus an online retailer.  But, that is about it.

Happened to drive by there about 7:45 last night.  Place was so jammed that they may have been limiting entrance.  The line to the food truck outside was huge, and the entire sidewalk was blocked.   Obviously the furor will soon die down, but I was surprised at how many people turned out for the opening.

This store will draw a lot of shoppers to Brookside who never went there in the past - especially the tourist shoppers who usually only hit Utica Sq. and Woodland Hills.  The spillover of the added foot traffic for the other businesses will be significant.

Haven't been to Starship in a while?  Was there for a while between Christmas and New Years.  Not much of the current stuff in stock.

Barnes and Nobles stocks Vinyl. Done!

I will certainly stop by this place at some point down the road. I will be going to some restaurant and go "hey, isn't there some new store that's a big deal?" I will then walk in and see some interesting things, and some shockingly expensive horrible things. I doubt I will refuse to buy something from them out of principle... I will likely refuse to buy something from them because they have nothing for me worth the prices they are commanding. Which saves me the trouble of standing on principle. (or failing therein).

Just googled them... and looked at some of their stores. Nothing terrible really. Prices aren't horrid. Seems like a nice story for twenty somethings hipsters and fashionistas.  Good for them.

If I ever want skinny jeans, I know where to go.

In a past life (college) I would go to the Urban Outfitters in Dallas at Mockingbird Station. And still own some extremely comfy T-shirts shockingly. Also been to Philly & New York stores. However, last summer I visited a store in a trendy part of Chicago and was extremely let down. It used to have this hipster/bohemian thing working for it, but as far as I can tell that ship has sailed. Most of the women's clothes appeared to be second hand/torn/scantily clad or dominatrix leather, and the menswear went past hipster into homeless. In it's defense the store's are always very nice and clean and trendy looking. All in all, my wife were in and out in about 2 minutes after giving each other quit a few weird looks.

When there is competition, I don't know how this place will hold it's own, especially now that they are trying to set the trend, as opposed to bucking the trend as they had in the past.

All in all, this is a pretty big name that would have been far more significant to Tulsa 10 years ago. I'm not discounting Tulsa or anything, but I think this is an example of a store completely saturating the markets it has already entered and finally hitting the new markets when same store sales won't add the extra revenue that is so highly desired.

I really don't know what the big deal is actually.  Have been to one in Dallas several times and was underwhelmed.  First time chalked it up to them perhaps changing out inventory and thus perhaps not having much out. Second time went, same thing.  The other thing that irked me was "We sell a lot of the same gift things in DECOPOLIS,". You would think a store with their reputation would have more unique items.  For example we have the paddywax apothecary candles that everyone is so fond of  ("Tobacco Pachouli" is a top seller, sounds gross, smells incredible.) We also have a lot of the same fun books and many other gift items.  Guess since they are out of Austin they go to the Dallas Market Center like we do to find products.  Though we still have a wider range of more interesting gift items and fun books than they do, I think it is time we up our game and go further afield to find stuff that is even gooder and begin creating more of our own. I think someone on this forum recently got a plushy "Blue Police Box" (not to be mistaken for a Tardis... ok well kinda sorta to be mistaken for one) for a gift that we make here at DECOPOLIS.   ;)

Their clothes aren't that unique or great, but it is nice to have another place to buy skinny jeans.  ;D

Someday people in Austin will be lining the streets to get into a DECOPOLIS store there.  "OMG, did you hear, we are finally able to rank one of those great stores from Tulsa!"  That's the kind of thing people and city leaders should be shooting for here, not just working to bring in this or that store from elsewhere, but supporting the local guys to make it big and bring in the bacon from other cities.

Nope.  It has been about two years since I got the chance to go by.  Was a while before that, too.  The previous visit, I picked up an issue of Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers....grandkid got a kick outa that.

About that time was able to find the board game for download - Feds N Heads - just gotta find the actual game somewhere just for old times sake!  Wonder if Oklahoma would be so stupidly backwards as to consider that "paraphernalia"....?  I bet so.

The new store just doesn't have that familiar feel of the old ones.  Missing 'character'.... no tiny apartment out back with renters that held great movie screening parties...
