I'd say "finally, let's move on and do something constructive with our time..."

but that'd be silly of me.

I doubt it because people like Sally Howe Smith will continue to refuse to issue licenses and will continue to fight it.  From the WSJ article you posted:

QuoteWASHINGTON—The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to consider whether same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry, a surprise action that leaves the issue unresolved nationwide.

Seven appeals on the issue involving same-sex marriage bans in five states had landed on the court's doorstep while the justices were away on their summer break. State officials defending same-sex marriage bans, as well as gay couples challenging...

Then wouldn't she legally be in contempt of court?

Yes, it's not resolved nationally. But with the appeal of appellate ruling overturning the ban here being denied a hearing, it is the law here in Oklahoma.

Well, it is going to be hard to go home tonight and tell my wife that our marriage is ruined now that the gays can marry. I'm not sure how she's going to take it.

Some wives may figure out they've got more and better options.

Supreme Court Will Not Hear Oklahoma Same Sex Appeal

http://publicradiotulsa.org/post/supreme-court-will-not-hear-oklahoma-same-sex-appeal

QuoteWASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has turned away appeals from five states seeking to prohibit same-sex marriages, paving the way for an immediate expansion of gay and lesbian unions.

The justices on Monday did not comment in rejecting appeals from Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The court's order immediately ends delays on marriage in those states. Couples in six other states should be able to get married in short order.

That would make same-sex marriage legal in 30 states and the District of Columbia.

But the justices have left unresolved for now the question of same-sex marriage nationwide.

So is this when you're supposed to say "if you don't like it, you can go ahead and leave"?  I've certainly heard that line a few times.

And Mary hath spoken!

Quote
Governor Mary Fallin released the following statement,

"The people of Oklahoma have the right to determine how marriage is defined. In 2004, Oklahomans exercised that right, voting by a margin of 3-1 to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

The will of the people has now been overridden by unelected federal justices, accountable to no one. That is both undemocratic and a violation of states' rights. Rather than allowing states to make their own policies that reflect the values and views of their residents, federal judges have inserted themselves into a state issue to pursue their own agendas.

Today's decision has been cast by the media as a victory for gay rights. What has been ignored, however, is the right of Oklahomans – and Americans in every state – to write their own laws and govern themselves as they see fit. Those rights have once again been trampled by an arrogant, out-of -control federal government that wants to substitute Oklahoma values with Washington, D.C. values."

I don't think she's being told how the whole thing works...or she knows most Oklahomans don't know how the judicial branch works and she knows this is what to say to get elected.

Amazing how this messaging parallels desegregation, voting, and other civil rights legislation a generation ago.   You would think people would learn from the past.

And whoever commented on this being just for election positioning is spot-on.  Nothing like appealing to the lowest common denominator voter.
