Anyone heard rumors of an out of state group buying Big Splash and enclosing the entire water park?

I welcome new ownership, but I think I've heard this idea before

Wouldn't it be cheaper to bulldoze what's there and build a new one?  Oops,  my bad, forgot you're talking about the Fair Board and Murphy Brothers.

Nice John Carpenter reference.

I know it's not exactly related, but if someone could post the Bells crayon business plan pic I'd really appreciate it.  ;D

One thing that I am proud to tell everyone about Big Splash is............I've never been there.
So I don't think Safari No is going to change my mind.
Plus, Him with lots of children in swimsuits. Prolly not a good mix.  ::) I'm sorry that was just wrong.  ;D
Changing opinions one mistake at a time.

I've never been to Big Splash, but it seems popular with many.  From my observations in merely passing by, it seems undercapitalized and has deteriorated over time from a lack of upkeep and improvements.  Like amusement parks, water parks need to be in a constant state of change to keep up with the competition by adding new more extreme rides, taller/faster water slides, etc.  Perhaps because it is drawing only locals and really has no competition, Big Splash has not done any of those things.  Stripping out one of the two things every water park has (a big slide, the other being a wave pool), does not make any sense if it is going to stay a water park in any sense of the word.

The fairgrounds appear to be on a trajectory of becoming just a horse show and exhibit center, except for the 2 weeks a year of the fair, surrounded by a sea of asphalt.

^What's this competition you speak of? Big Splash has stayed the way it has because they don't need to put any money into it - it's the only game around and it's cheap enough that it gets packed out all the time. Plus the Murphy's know how to get away without paying bills, rent, or maintenance. It just prints money for them.

As much as you guys dig on Robby Bell, the Murphy's are 100x worse. It's a crime that Bell's got run off while they were allowed to continue these games. I mean their slides have literally fallen apart with people on them. It's not that hard to maintain a piece of fiberglass.  ::)

The slide being taken out has apparently been out of operation for most of the past several summers. It's apparently dangerous and has maintenance issues. I'm sure a replacement is on the way. Honestly, the entire park pretty much needs to be rebuilt, but especially all the slides.
