KTUL losing talent?

With the departures of Travis Meyer & Mike Ziegenhorn is KTUL revamping the entire news department?  KJRH ran a promo this evening and seemingly they are acquiring three additional members of the KTUL staff.   I wonder why folks area abandoning ship?

First...I've always disliked KTUL.  I've always kind of felt that KTUL was geared towards really old people and country folk.  And I've never really liked their "talent."

Perhaps KTUL is revamping...and trying to compete for different types of viewers.

Another posibility....during the Bush vs. Kerry election...Charles Ely said that the people who weren't voting for Bush were "yellow-dog democrats".  I took that as a part of the mindset of KTUL.

I'm not saying that politics caused the turnover...but I'd suspect that if KTUL's politics showed so clearly, there are other issues with the KTUL management.  And whatever the mindset of their management, it may not be flexible enough to keep their newscasters...the market is competitive after all.

If I worked for KTUL, I would leave too.  I imagine it gets quite sickening to always be listening to liberal-biased news.
Now I know the other stations have some liberal-bias as well, but KTUL is definately the worst.

Want restrictions on peoples views?  Go live in N. Korea.

The station must have had too many liberal rednecks on the staff.

I've heard there is a lot of politic-ing going on atop lookout mountain. They are feeling some competition heat and making some changes. The new/old sports guy was previously the ziegenhorn's boss and they didn't get along.

Actually, it turns out KJRH isn't getting any "person" from KTUL, they're getting two shows from KTUL, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! That was kind of cheap to play off the whole Zig thing and make people think he's coming htere.

AVERAGE JOE

I think they're just tired of finishing second in the ratings locally. They were tied with KOTV for the top spot a few times just a couple of years ago, but they've slipped significantly since then.

Actually, they were crushing CH 6 from about '99 until about two years ago. But, these things go in cycles. I think KOKI has hurt channl 8 a little bit, but I think a lot of it just has to do with channel 6's affiliation with CBS. Their network shows are the best. You've also got Oprah and Dr. Phil doing some damage. Channel 8 used to have Millionaire and some decent primetime programming. That's not the case now.

You have got to be kidding!  I have always considered Channel 8 news to be a mouthpiece for the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce.  In my opinion, they offer the most conservative, "Republican," viewpoint of any local broadcast station.

My own personal preferrence for local news is Channel 6, especially since Clayton Vaughn retired.  I also sometimes watch the 9:00 PM newscast on Fox 23.  I don't have cable or satelite and rely on local broadcast, the Tulsa World, and word-of-mouth to keep me informed of local news issues.

Wouldn't it be great if we had a younger news station? A station that would be geared for the young professional. It would be willing to go the extra mile, and do real interviews with real people, and willing to ask questions that other stations would never ask in this town.

I could buy that for a dollar.  I dislike deceptive advertising but work for a local contributor to that end.  Two shows and whom/what else?

But, that would be REAL reporting.  As a person that is moving on in years (yikes), I find it a bit offensive that you wouldn't think we would all appreciate that.

KTUL IS LIBERAL.  I watch a lot of news and hear the same stories on all the stations and KTUL always has to put a liberal spin on it.  Sometimes it is just a word or two, but they almost always put some type of liberal twist on the story.
I am not the only one who feels this way.  Ask Michael DelGiorno, he too would tell you KTUL is the most liberal.
I sent an email to KTUL once telling them I was sick of their liberal spins, and one of the workers there, who admitted he wasn't happy with KTULs approach, replided something along the lines of, "KTUL reports the news as we see it and when I say we, I mean the writers."  Now I don't know, maybe he was just having a bad day, but I doubt it.

I know you don't always see it, but KTUL is liberal.  Sometimes I zone out and don't really catch it either, but if you listen closely, you will hear the liberal spins.
