Trump to close Norman weather radar, fire 800

The lease for the Radar Operations Center in Norman is being canceled by the Trump administration, according to reports from Axios.

The Radar Operations Center provides centralized radar operations support, field assistance, software maintenance and more. It is a centralized hub for technicians and researchers working to improve and repair the nation's Doppler weather radars.

U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, R-Oklahoma, said he is in contact with the Trump administration to "ensure that they understand how valuable and vital the National Weather Center is."

"As a resident of Moore, I know firsthand how important the National Weather Center in Norman is. The center saves lives by alerting the American people when a tornado, hurricane or any other severe storm is coming their way," said Cole. "I am confident once all the facts are known, the National Weather Center will remain operational and in Oklahoma."

The lease cancellation comes just days after the news broke that over 800 probational employees at NOAA were terminated by the Department of Government Efficiency.

Well, that too. But they might still come out to go to work.  Better they live through some of the consequences they are creating.
