One of the things I've heard most about George Bush from his allies is that he is stubborn and hard headed. I think the slap in the face America gave the Republicans must've made him wake up somewhat.

On the flip side, he says he's keeping Cheney.  Guess we can't expect two miracles in one day.

That's possible. I didn't hear his announcement but from what I understand he finally admitted that things weren't going well in Iraq. Whatever brought this move about, I applaud it.

Will this help Bush's job approval rating? Today's Rasmussen shows Bush's job approval at 45% .... will this help it go up a couple points?

If that's the case, his approval has already gone up--quite a bit.

I am actually willing to give the President some credit here.  Maybe its not about polls, per se, maybe its about a new-found ability to listen to the will of the American people.  Just last week he said Rummy was going to stay through '08.  Today, he listened.  Now, what about tomorrow?

Well it goes up and down a little every day. The average over the past week is a little more than 43%.

Rumsfeld should have been fired at least two years ago.

It's disheartening to see a president tolerate incompetance for so long.

I believe that overall, Bush's approval rating is going to move closer to a solid 50% soon.  Rumsfeld is a minor factor IMO.  I believe that Bush can find new popularity with the new congress.  There are going to be some real items on the table, if everyone's honest and some things get done, that's great for Bush.  He'll get credit for all kinds of things that simply weren't possible under the GOP congress.

I do wonder about Rove however, and I wonder if Bush is still going to run the office like a campaign.  I hope not.

Rove--after Rummy, that's a "courtesy" resignation that this country could really use.

Rove might step down, too. He's been implicated with Abramoff scandal and very likely the Foley scandal. And who knows what Scooter Libby will blab when he gets tried for perjury?

Rove got fired by Bush's dad for being politically dirty. Chickens are coming home to roost.

But, mainly, Rove will probably step down because his boss' party lost. It's like the NFL -- losers don't keep their jobs long.

If I were Bush, I'd fire Rove and hire Howard Baker in a heartbeat.
