On another note, did Bros Houligan move to 61st and Mingo, or are they just expanding?

It is on 61st.....And Houligans expanded....

I love Savastano's.  I think the deep dish pizza is great.  However, we ususally get the thin crust because the deep dish is so rich.

dolts.. both of you.  Pei Wei (pronounced "pay way" you okie dumbasses) is on 71st next to Red Robin and Bone Fish grill.  The 61st/yale Pei Wei's is an old restaurant and doesnt qualify for this thread.

dolts... all of you.   A carbon copy location of an restaurant already established in town (chain or not) doesn't exactly qualify as "new".

uh yes it does.  as much as you burn in pain thinking otherwise, the Pei Wei i mentioned is a new restaurant and the subject of this thread is best new restuarant of 2006.

New location, yes.  New-to-Tulsa restaurant, no.  It's been a dining option in Tulsa for a few years.  I've visited the Yale location a few times over the last few years.  Something tells my my menu options, service, or dining experience isn't going to be any different at the 2nd location.  It's brought nothing new to Tulsa.  Do you get excited when a "new" starbucks opens across the street from an existing one because it's "new"?  Err, I guess you do.

It's a new restaurant....live with it.  Because of this new restuarant I no longer have to trek to 61st/Yale.

And when a new Starbucks opens up in Woodland hills it will be a big deal, because I will not have to go out of my way to get coffee, I can get it while I'm at the mall.  The 111th/Memorial Starbucks opening up will be an equally big deal.

What WASN'T a new restaurant?  Ming's, when they MOVED from 21st/Yale to 71st/Memorial (now closed and reoped as hong kong buffet).  So if Pei Wei's would have closed their 61st/Yale location and moved to 71st that would NOT be a new restaurant.

Its ok, you'll get it through your thick skull some day.[}:)]

ANYWAY ....

Thanks to those of you who made recommendations.  I may forego Pei Wei for the moment, as we have one here in Charlotte.  The Brasserie on Brookside sounds charming .... I love a good french onion soup.  And I may have to check-out Savastanos just to see which side of this debate I fall.  Thanks again!

Is it an imitation because it's made in Tulsa? I thought the Savastano's were from Chicago and have every reason to be "authentic."

Yes they are from the Chicago area. They are from the south 'burbs as am I. Frank, the owner, was inspired by Giordano's (several Chicagoland locations) and Sanfratello's. (only a few locations in the southside/NW Indiana) I prefer the Sanfratello's style of pizza which has a thicker crust and less cheese. Giordano's on the other hand has a thin crust with loads of cheese and toppings. Unfortunately, the Savastano's went more with the Giordano's style.
I still like Savastano's, but I just don't think it is really worth driving all the way to 111th and Memorial.
