Two giant falcons or hawks or something in my neighborhood in BA. Saw one snatch a bird out of mid-flight a few weeks ago. Impressive.

Those may be Mississippi Kites -- member of the raptor family. Somewhat common for the area I believe.

I was thinking of wildlife today.

I was walking to work and saw some pigeons eating frozen sick on the sidewalk. I also see lots of foxes in the morning.

No native wolves in Ok....Something thats escaped someone possible....

Interesting topic. I read the other day that most foxes in the US are in urban areas where there are few natural predators like coyotes, wolves, and feral dogs. I thought that was odd.

There are more in wild but they adapt to city living well.....

I saw two foxes at 29th and Yale a couple of weeks ago in broad daylight. One crossed the Yale (he looked like he knew what he was doing crossing the street) and met up with another one then they both disappeared behind a business. We have an owl in our yard. We didn't start seeing it until after the ice storm so I figured he was displaced.

I figure we didnt notice them because they were high up in trees that suddenly no longer exist.
Last saw them around where the dog's food bowl had been.

I've read where misguided people attempt to keep them as domestic pets. Perhaps these are runaways.

Could be a hybrid as well....

Has anyone noticed the two bald eagles along Riverside between 41st & 51st (east side)?  I know bald eagles have been nesting around the area for a while, but I have been amazed at how frequently I see them these days.  I have seen one or two of them every morning for the past week.

We have a whole family of bald eagles at 121st and Yale, in the belt between the road and the river.  The male is large enough to pick up small dogs.  I assume they feed on the abundant ranbow trout in the river [;)].

Ummm, are there really wolves in Oklahoma?

I'm not saying it's impossible, but the references I've seen say that wolves disappeared in the Sooner State in the 1930s.

YES!  There are wolves.  There's a small pack near Sheridan and 121st.  You can hear them on some quiet nights and they have taken neighborhood pets.  I've seen two running across the field, a light grey and a darker grey/black.  They seem to be well fed.

There are new neighborhoods being developed, so I assume they will have to find a new home.

Coyotes possibly....No Wolves....Sorry...

I have been very close to a coyote that I met while passing a sand bar on the Arkansas River. These were no coyotes. And the 121st Sheridan location is within a couple of miles of my sighting.

Just because they are no longer indigenous doesn't mean there might not be some strays or some runaway domestics that are surviving.

Any recent coyote or coyote-like sightings?

BTW, I havent seen or heard the owls that are around the Ranch Acres-Utica Square area since the ice storm.  May have something to do with the perches I last saw them on being gone...

This poor critter was caught at our shop a few weeks ago.  We have coons, skunks, and opossum around here (about 1/4 mile south of the Sinclair Refinery.)  One of our welders brought a trap in.  We've since asked him not to trap any more animals once we figured out animal control doesn't drop off wildlife somewhere out in the country.  FYI- QT taquitos apparently are tasty morsels to coons.

We are just close enough to the river and semi-wilderness between here and Turkey Mtn, that you will see all sorts of stuff around.
