Tulsa MLS, shall we talk about it again?

I am very curious to hear what people think about impact that David Beckham will have on the world of Major League Soccer. With such a mega super star, I have a feeling that attendance at the LA Galaxy will be at all new record highs, and that when that team comes to other teams towns, people will be out to see him. I am also curious to see if this marks a major turn of good news from the MLS program. Is this starting to turn into a major outfit?

Second thought, I hope Tulsa gets an MLS expansion team.

It's similar to Pele playing for the New York Cosmos a few decades ago.

Also, Ronaldo is rumored to be heading the MLS as well...

Both of these players are past their prime, but still good for publicity none the less.

I'd go if Tulsa had a team, but I don't think it would be the brightest investment.

Chris

I would still take a MLS stadium over a minor-league baseball stadium downtown. It's more versatile and would be a REAL pro team, even if it's MLS. It's also Tulsa's best chance of a major-league team from any sport.

But the the minor-league baseball stadium would attract higher attendance and suit the interest of the local residents more.

I think MLS needs to get rid of the wage caps that apply for all of the players apart from the 'designated player'. This would allow MLS to compete with Europe and Asia for the best players.

I think getting Beckham was a triumph. He will radically change the game in the US. He may not be smart, but when it comes to PR and publicity he will rejuvenate MLS and draw in huge crowds. I think LA made a very good buy.

It will go down as one of the biggest sporting flops in history.....

I share your opinion.

More personal opinion masquerading as fact... weren't you moving to a different city anyway?

"So, Charlie Brown... Major League Soccer in Tulsa... shall we talk about it again???"

I can simply base it off the fact Oklahoma City has had huge success with a minor league stadium in their downtown area. In addition, baseball has more history in this state.

What's your evidence supports your opinion on soccer being successful in Tulsa?

Find me one city with the metro area the size of Tulsa that has had success with Major League Soccer.

Find me a city, additionally...that has funded a stadium exclusively for Major League Soccer and has had financial success.

Show me evidence, besides little league soccer , telling me that adult Tulsans (the ones with the money) like soccer more than baseball.

Thanks.

Despite anything that has been said to the contrary, I also hope that Tulsa someday gets an MLS team. I really don't see that happening for several years, since they're still looking at major metro areas and haven't quite trickled down to mid-sized metros the size of Tulsa yet. We'd be the Green Bay Packers of the MLS. Since we weren't one of the founding cities, I think we'll have to wait until all the major metros have teams and the league still wants to expand.

Did you ever visit their minor league team when it was at the fairgrounds? That area was hideous and the stadium run down. Of course moving their stadium downtown next to the Murrah and the Bricktown made sense...for them! It was an upgrade.

Our stadium is perfectly fine. Sits in a stable neighborhood, has been upgraded and is never filled to capacity for games. Why fix something that isn't broken?

As far as Beckham? I'm skeptical of his drawing power this side of the pond.

Hey, I think both are a waste of money...but an MLS team takes the cake between the two ideas.

The success of soccer in Tulsa has been posted ad nauseum...and of soccer specific stadiums. Do your own homework instead of posting your opinions as fact and expecting others to inform you of the true facts.

Success of soccer on the level of having an MLS team? Show me the evidence.
