I will never likely set foot in this proposed building.  At least they chose the intersection on US75 that already has controlled access.

From KTUL

quote:
Glenpool - A first-of-its kind Wal-Mart will soon be coming to a Tulsa suburb.

The new SuperCenter will be built on the southwest corner of Highway 75 and 121st Street in Glenpool. The plan calls for a more upscale look. Designers say they want to get away from the 'big box' appearance.

The 196-thousand square foot store will also feature an outside dining area and more landscaping.

Of the 220 new Wal-Marts being built across the country this year, this one is the only one that will look like this.

So, why was Glenpool chosen?

"Because the community has been so receptive to Wal-Mart," says Planning Director Stan Ewing. "This is going to give them an opportunity to come into a community and not have anti-Wal-Mart distractions, that type of thing. It's kind of a reward for being friendly, maybe."

The new Wal-Mart is expected to bring three hundred jobs to Glenpool and generate 480-thousand dollars in additional tax revenue. It's expected to open next Spring.

There are also plans for restaurants, hotels and a doctor's office in the area around the new store.

I don't care what they dress it up as, it is still a very big big box at 190,000 plus square feet of cheapness.

Finally, a shopping center  for SW Tulsa.  Thought I'd die before seeing it.

This iisn't a SW tulsa shopping center, this is a walmart. Tulsa Hills, with 2 miles of big box goodness, is a shopping center.

Glenpool is doing very well lately.

All these years of trying to stay a bedroom community are over. There is good leadership there, new homes being built, and now they are getting some retail stores to provide some revenue for city services.

That is a pretty Wal-Mart.

I also like the location of the hotel in the middle.

I wonder if this one will have lines that stretch into the clothing section while there are only 10 out of 50 registers open, like the one at 66th and Memorial and the one by ORU?

Whenever I visit Tulsa, I myself tend toward a Doubletree Hotel as my first choice.

The Hilton on 169 and 81st is very nice.  I thought it was nicer than the Doubletree.

I am going to try the doubletree this weekend.

I just want something other than Best Western on the southside, ideally Glenpool.  The incompetance of the Glenpool BW has probably cost the chain 200 room nights a year from our company alone.

We went to the Presidential Suites at 61st and Memorial a few months ago just to get away. I had found a great rate on an internet site.

http://www.presidentialsuitestulsa.com/

It ain't the Four Seasons, but we were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room and the nice bed. It also had a good breakfast and free internet so I could read this forum.
