Do We Really Need To Fight This War?

I wish we did not need to fight this war and in hindsight it probably would have been better to consolidate Afghanistan before proceeding.  However, there is no real evidence to show that the war was instigated or in any way actionable under international law.  And as the facts stand, the United States is occupying a foreign country where innocent people are murdered by extremists everyday. So the Bush this or that argument is moot.

The only question that really matter's is what do we do NOW.  Do we need to CONTINUE to fight this war?

If so, I argue the current strategy is not working and something needs to be done.  Perhaps the surge needs a bit more time to work but we need to think of our next step before our current one fails.  Also needed to be answered or at least pondered, at what point must we admit defeat?

If we do not need to continue - how do we end the conflict?  Is there a way to leave while saving face and minimizing damage to Iraq?  Are those priorities over American lives?  Do we continue to support the Iraqi government or allow it to fall - if support, how?

Those questions are much more pertinent than if Bush staged a war, lied, or is an idiot.  Surely history will tell and most likely it doesn't matter to our current state of affairs.

My point in posting the article was to point out this hatred of people who do not have the same religious or cultural beliefs as some of these extremist Muslims, is ingrained at an early age.  It is an integral part of their culture.

Iraq was at least somewhat more stable with Saddam on a short leash.  I don't know if I agree with the timing, but they had pretty well flushed out the Taliban and they could roam the mountains for years and never find OBL.

If not now, then when?  The Middle East has been a smoldering fire for years and some American President at some point was going to have to do something militarily over there.  There's likely a lot more strategery at work with Iraq than what the public can truly be allowed to know.

We have technology and an ocean to shield us from most of these unevolved folks. Lets just be thankful for that and stop meddling in their affairs.
Yeah, you're right.  How could these cave dwellers ever attack us on our own soil? [xx(]  I bet it'll NEVER happen...oh wait.

Absolute rubbish.  Do you have anything to back this up?  Take off the tinfoil hat.

Hey Dingus.  You're wasting valuable tinfoil hat manufacturing time by talking with us.

Why don't you and your band of merry men go back to rocking the world with Troof and leave the adults here to talk about big-boy stuff m'kay...

If you are an adult with "big-boy stuff" then we must have crossed paths.  I am sure you are out doing great things for the community.  What do you look like, I bet we could be friends.

Alt, nice olive branch, but I don't think you'd recognize him.  In fact, I doubt you'd recognize anyone w/o a tinfoil hat. [:o)]

BTW- would it be too much of a hardship on you to change your avatar?  I keep having epileptic seizures every time I see that G**damn Bruce Lee-esque animation

Probably.  I have been to the Orange Julius in the mall.  You look good in the uniform, BTW.

Yes Dingus, I actually do helpful things for the community like Habitat for Humanity and I volunteer to mentor abused kids at the Laura Dester Shelter from time to time.

But I'm sure since my activities DON'T involve littering the streets with signs and shouting at cars like a deranged homeless person they don't count to you.

Doing your buddies hair gel does not count as doing something for the community.....Although using your personal organic hair gel is better for the enviroment.....

Tenet Details Efforts to Justify Invading Iraq
Former CIA Director Says White House Focused on the Idea Long Before 9/11

White House and Pentagon officials, and particularly Vice President Cheney, were determined to attack Iraq from the first days of the Bush administration, long before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and repeatedly stretched available intelligence to build support for the war, according to a new book by former CIA director George J. Tenet.

I'll take half-assed CYA, and a pathetic attempt to salvage a legacy for $500.

The Chicken Hawks keep yapping but accomplish little.

Sticking your head in the sand about Iraq and this Whitehouse isn't making it all better.

As long as there are half-wit, trust-everything-I-hear-as-long-as-it's-anti-bush nutcases out there I'll continue to yap.  Get used to it.

cannon_fodder

In the interest of fairness, IP, there are also nut job-trust-every-bush-says nut jobs out there too.  I guess they can at least cite to an authoritative, if not trustworthy source (US Government).

Oh I definitely realize that.  What I object to is every time one of these yahoos publishes a book to attempt a CYA for things they've done, they are accepted as gospel truth by people like swake who would agree with anything as long as it's critical of Bush.

Throwing Bush under the bus for everything is getting old.
