...and failed.

From The Hill

quote:
"There has never been a partisan political event at the Capitol, and this is a partisan political event," Inhofe said yesterday.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) attempted late last week to pass the authorizing measure for Live Earth by unanimous consent. But Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) raised an objection on the floor, seeking more time for his side to look at the resolution.

Inhofe appeared to see little room for an accommodation that could allow the concert to go forward. "There's no compromise. Either we change the rules or we don't."

(Bit-O'-Irony:  It looks like the D.C. event will feature Oklahoman Garth Brooks, and Trisha, of course.)

(Bit-O'-Irony #2:  The Indians were the ones that made room on the Mall.)

Geez Louise.

Doesn't Inhofe have better things to do? Like trying to help shepherd disaster aid to flooded-out folks in northeastern Oklahoma, for example?

I'm glad he has his priorities in order.

What a maroon.

Rwarn, can I borrow a "feh" from you on this one? [;)]

My peeps in the know tell me that the Indian museum is about half a mile from his office.  But that he won't be there on Saturday...none of them are.

TheArtist

You know I haven't always agreed with his views on things like global warming and such, but I have respected them and have always tried to learn more. Its good for everyone to question science, especially the scientists.  Its important for assertions to not be absolutes but contain a word of caution for none of us knows everything. But Inhofe would be wise to play by tried and true rules as well.

Regardless of what I have though of his opinions in the past this set of statements has really made me lose respect for him.

Those who think it is a luxury have only a fragment of a mind. Mans spirit grows hungry for art in the same way h

I think Inhofe looks at it the same way I do.  Global warming has been ratcheted up to a stage of hysteria and that's where they lose me.

Do I think we all need to decrease our emissions and waste, absolutely.  I'm a fan of alt energy and I do try to figure out how to create as little waste as possible.

Is the planet dying?  No one has convinced me of that yet.

I take it that you're a fan of Merrie Melodies-Looney Tunes? I am too. But don't tell anyone: they'd banish us, you know.

Double A

I've been watching the Live Earth coverage on Sundance. It's been pretty good so far. Inhofe kinda reminds me of the character Homer Stokes in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? when Stokes tried to silence the Soggy Bottom Boys. Is you is, or is  you ain't my constituancy? Speaking of constituents, does anybody else find it ironic that he would try to shut down a concert that two of his constituents(Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood) are headlining?

No one sees the irony of this concert?

Did anyone ride a bicycle or at least carpooled  to the concert?
Did the live earth concert vendors refuse to serve hamburgers, hot dogs and bottle water?
Are they only using solar and wind energy to power everything at the live earth concert?
Is all the trash being recycled after the concert?
Did all the people who attended concert not litter?

Its like using the wooden "up with trees" signs to promote Tree Conservation/Tree planting.

WOOD is a RENEWABLE resource.  IT makes SENSE to use wood for signs.  It is also biodegradable.  Wood is grown as a crop in many places.  In the US, trees that are taken down for use as wood are replanted.  Up With Trees is a city beautification program, and hasn't got anything to do with stopping deforestation anyway.

I also see the hypocrisy in all the fuel, electricity, etc. that was used to create the concert, but damn, it's just a concert.

Conan71

The promoters, when all of this was pointed out, said that it was for a "greater purpose" to bring attention to the issue.

Yeah, whatever strokes Gore's ego. [B)]

I'm a music geek with the best of 'em and a quasi-treehugger. But I saw this big mondo-concert as a big waste of resources.

Except for the wooden-sign part of the rant (which already has been pointed out), I agree with jamesrage.

Mark your calendars. [:O]

Conan71

I wonder if Gore is going to foot the bill for all the carbon off-sets for the electricity, private jets, etc.

Actually I saw something about the promoters purchasing carbon offsets and that generators used biofuels. There were a few other environmental considerations, too.

MichaelC

It probably is a waste of time.  Still, that Al Gore is wasting his time to promote environmental concerns, something he's done as long as I've been aware of him, is probably not a bad thing.  This country has virtually no future prospects, at all.  We're just kind of muttering through, learning little.

We're still under the delusion that we can do nothing about anything and everything will be fine.  "Anything", excludes Islam of course.
