Double A

I heard Cason Carter will not run for re-election to the City Council. It has long been rumored that his stint on the Council was a stepping stone towards a run for state office. Anybody out there think that there is any truth to these rumors?

I wouldn't have the foggiest idea.  Good for him if he wants to become a career politician.  I hear it's made John Sullivan a wealthy man.

Never truer words spoken.

Pretty amazing how you can go from not having the proverbial "pot to piss in" to the assets and life-style of a millionaire with a fashionable town-house in DC, a McMansion in the home district on a +/- $170K per year income in seven years or less.

Not picking just on Sullivan- it's happening/happened all over Congress.

The money comes from a group of people I think are known as lobbyists. Apparently they run around D.C. handed over big wads of cash to doofuses for favors. Probably sexual favors, I am not sure.

Conan71

C'mon Nellie, that would be completely un-ethical.

Well I thought it sounded completely unbelievable, but I hear it's actually true. I think someone needs to check into this.

I will publicly state right now that ANY politician that accepts money for sexual favors should be soundly punished.

Conan71

What?  Something like a good spanking?

Money for sexual favors?

Does this job pay by the pound?

I seem to remember at one time early in his career, he listed his total net worth as being less than MINE (I was maybe 25 at the time), and that was just 4 or 5  years ago.  My understanding is that he can probably use campaign funds to pay for the townhouse, though.  Anyone know if that's true or not?

The worst part about it is seeing what Oklahoma's gotten in return for their investment. I found this on another board:                  "I came across some facinating information on the Congress.org website today. It seems they have researched and ranked the effective political power of each member of Congress. Is it any surprise that Oklahoma does not fare very well?

The only star for Oklahoma in the rankings is Dan Boren with a rank of 50th most powerful member of the house of Representatives. Tom Cole at #160 is the only other member of the Oklahoma Delegation to rank in the upper half with next best Frank Lucas coming in at #260.

You have to look way down in the bottom of the barrel to find John Sullivan and Mary Fallin at #396 and #435 respectively. Mary Fallin gets absolutely no respect with her ranking of third from the last followed by fellow wimp freshman republican Gus Bilirakis of Florida and the infamous William Jefferson who actually achieved a negative power rating after being accused of serious crimes which he appears guilty of.

Fallin and Sullivan actually ranked lower than Luis G. Fortuño, the delegate from Puerto Rico who does not even have a vote

Over on the senate side, Inhofe and Coburn rank 71st. and 88th. respectively which does not bode well for Oklahoma's issues in that chamber.

Overall as a state, Oklahoma ranks 51st with the voteless territories of Guam and American Samoa holding more sway in the halls of Congress. Actually Oklahoma was not the worst among the 50 states with Nebraska and Louisiana ranking lower but that is little consolation."

Not surprising considering the relative lack of tenure in the HOR with the Okla. delegation.  If you looked back before the '06 mid-term, I'm willing to bet Boren was far down the list and Sullivan was higher due to the shift in majority.

Boren had a shot at becoming a major political player and possibly make a run at the presidency, but skeletons in the closet made him get out of politics. He makes a good university president.

Double A

Uh, this is his son, the current Congressman from CD2, Dan Boren. Maybe Cason Carter will run against Sullivan? Now, that would be an interesting race.
