Peoria Enhancements

Just wondering who thought it was a good idea to spend a lot of money on enhancements on Peoria btwn 36th and 41st. This stretch of road is seriously deteriorated. There is an old saying that you can't make crap smell good. This was an attempt to do just that. And then the decision to make these improvements was made  even  worse  when some clown used black pavers on black asphalt. Black on black. Huh.

CoffeeBean

I guess the better idea would be to let it continue deteriorating ad infinitum?

Brilliant!

After a period of time any paver used on a street is going to turn black...Whats more concerning is where the pavers are failing on various crosswalks....As well as the new planters not being maintained and the poor crossing designs at some of the  E. W. streets.....

Yes some have said exactly what you have noticed. Poor design and cheaply done. All that work and hassle just to watch it crumble soon afterwards. An area like that which is supposed to be a Tulsa showplace and has high traffic should have buried the lines when it was all torn up and should have used granite curbs and pavers.
"When you only have two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other."-Chinese proverb. "Arts a staple. Like bread or wine or a warm coat in winter. Those who think it is a luxury have only a fragment of a mind. Mans spirit grows hungry for art in the same way h

You mean between 33rd and 36th?  They also threw some crap across 41st and Peoria, but I don't recall anything of substance between 41st and 36th..

Either way, it still seems nice from my vehicle.  Are you crossing that area as a pedestrian?  I really don't see it as looking horrible, YET.  But I would concur that if after only such a short time from the completion of construction that problems are already evident, then some sort of planning error was present.  Do it right, or don't do it at all, should be something present in the city charter.   When it comes to construction, you absolutely don't skimp on materials.

The pedestrian-friendly corners are to die for, but the pavers are being driven into the ground and a tar lip is rolling up where the pavers meet blacktop.  Additionally, it looked like major work was done to some of the water lines.

The upgrades were overdue, but like every other thing in this blasted town . . .

Trams

The cross-walks between 32 and 36 are tearing apart.  I drove over one just this weekend, and it was not pleasant.  They shouldn't have crumbled so quickly.

You can imagine the heartburn of the various local businesses -- those who endured the financial brunt of the construction project.

I believe a Tulsa World article said the contractor will be repairing the crosswalks.

I wish I could stop reading the title of this thread and thinking it's a commercial for Cialis.

The neighborhood association did a lot of planting this weekend only to place illegal signs patting themselves on the back for it.

The signs really detract from their work. If I knew how to post the pics I would.

That's the sexiest blurry finger I've ever seen.

Did you pull the signs up?

How is this any less obnoxious than the signs that say "Paid for with your tax dollars" or "Your tax dollars at work."  Those signs were a remider to the community that the businesses and residents in the area care enough to use their own time and effort to keep the community clean and beautiful.  It may remind others to do the same and spur others onto similar activities elsewhere.  Pissing off the people who keep the place looking good doesn't make much sense to me.

Are these signs any uglier than dead flowerbeds and overgrown weeds...because that's exactly what you'd get if those were my signs that you pulled up.

You sign Nazis drive me nuts.  Just like everything else in life, a little moderation and common sense go a long way.  You guys/gals remind me of the kids in middle school who got to be hall monitors and quickly became pariahs.  Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing, especially in this case.

Nobody had to drive you to nutsville, it's your permanent residence.  How brilliant can a lawyer be if he's just here to condone that which is illegal?

Fall off the wagon again this weekend MichaelC?

It's not about whether it's legal or illegal to me.  You could enforce every law to its letter, and it won't make the world a better place.  Some laws are inherently ignorant.  This happens to be a borderline law IMO, else they wouldn't have citizens inforcing it...

Sign Nazis are just middle school hall monitors reliving past glories from days long past.  People who can't see the difference between 5 cent trashy signs clogging up right-of-ways and simple signs placed by citizens/businesses who have gone the extra mile to beautify an area they didn't have to spend a dime on...you do the math.  A little common sense and moderation...
