Downtown Tulsa Unlimited has issued an urgent plea from the Mayor to employers downtown to have employees eat out more often.

DTU is taking names, apparently, and would 'appreciate your confirming your receipt of this and how you intend to let your employees know as well as the number of employees by emailing . . . '

So we are supposed to go eat there to keep them afloat until the arena opens?

It's supply and demand. Free market. If you can't cut it as a pub, bar or restaurant without the arena...downtown employees won't help, especially after dark. I have to take an exception to McNellie's not doing well. I just drove by and it's packed at lunch on a Wednesday.

the good restaurants aren't suffering....only the ****ty ones. its called market forces.  deal with it.

McNellie's has to be doing well. I spend enough there every week to personally keep it afloat.

I wonder why Subway (closes at 6 p.m.) is listed but Coney Island (closes at 7) isn't listed. Does that mean Coney Island isn't struggling but Subway is?

I'm sure the mayor means well.  Maybe she's finally responding to something on the mayor's action hotline.

We should support those local businesses.  That's my reason.  They're local.  Obviously only if you dig them.

If we don't support them now, it'll just take that much longer for downtown to develop a good walkable feel.  C'moooooon walkable feeling.

I think everything on 4th or boston is struggling because you can't get around downtown. I ate at green of boulder or whatever today.

I heard KFC in Jenks was strugging so I ate there.  I didn't have enough time to make it to 71st & Memorial to see the PETA gals.

The Greens have excellent chicken and dumplings on Thursdays.

Id check that Tulsa Health Dept link before going crazy on some of these downtown eateries.

To bad all those businesses on Boston didn't allow for wider sidewalks so they could put out a couple of tables and chairs. That immediately grabs attention and lets passers by know there is a restaurant there. Oh, wait a minute, they didnt want that, they wanted people to quickly drive by. Or so the persons who made the change said.

I'm just wondering what the supposed 17 restaurants that are open in evening actually are...  I can only think of a handful of restaurants that are open at night, and to me, 6 p.m. is not evening.

Lola's, Caz's Chowhouse, Pomodori's, McNellie's (counting the restaurant part only) and Tsunami...

Am I leaving out any?  I'm pretty sure Soranno's is only open until about 6 or 6:30, and KoKoa Kabana is only open until 6, and everything near Bartlett Square closes at 2 p.m., so I'm wondering what other restaurants seem to be struggling at night.

Of the ones listed on the press release in the first post on this thread, only Soranno's and Subway close early. The rest are open until 10 or so.

I gladly support the businesses that are open late. I'm a night owl and I live and work downtown, so I give none of my business to the places that close at 2 or 3 p.m.

Some of these downtown businesses need to actually be open their posted hours, instead of closing early or not opening at all for every minor holiday and the three days before and after every minor holiday. If you're open until 6 p.m. and the doors are locked when I visit at 5:40 p.m., you're losing my business.

And a final rant, to Quizno's: you're open until 5 p.m. Why do you feel the need to advertise to  passers-by that you're closed by putting 90% of the chairs up at 1 p.m.? Whatever manager is allowing that is incredibly short-sighted.

If the Mayor wants me to eat more, I can.

I am a good eater, I have practiced every day.

Ah the PETA folks.  The only worthwile stomach turning thing they do is the day before the Chupinazo of San Fermin...the Running of the Nudes.  Far too many hairy armpits and dreadlocks for me....

The best was this Romainian chick who I filmed talking about how they were there to "protect the balls...I mean the bulls"
