Cool. I'd like to read the whole article when it comes out. Below is a link to the actual pre-release of the National Geographic article.

This is exactly what we have been trying to let people know about for a long time.

1)Our multi-use Trail System is one of the most extensive in the country.

2) Turkey Mountain is one of the largest urban wildernesses in the country, and probably has 30 to 40 miles of official and unofficial hiking and mountain biking trails.

3) Chandler Park has some of the best Bouldering in the midwest.  A real mecca for the climbing community.

4) The Tulsa Wave...one of the best whitewater surfing waves in the midwest...and should the river package pass, the whitewater park that is planned below the zink dam will be one of, if not THE best in the midwest.  I was speaking with one Jon Lugbill about the river and the potential for a whitewater park here (He was visting to look at it a couple of months back) and he was blown away.  Said he never expected to find this (potential) in this part of the country, and should we build a park, it would draw whitewater enthusiasts from around the country...

Tulsa has a ton to offer in this genre.  Esp. with events like Tulsa Tough and the Tulsa Run, which highlight that segment of the community (fitness, outdoor minded), we have a chance to begin to change our reputation as a fat, tv watching city to a degree.

Good deal pfox. Your enthusiasm shows and that's a great thing.

That's great to see.

Maybe our branding will back away from "comfortably cosmopolitan" then.

Being a subscriber of NG for several years I am looking forward to the September issue but have some doubt that it was not written as an advertisement paid for through the CC by the city taxpayers.  It could also be reciting the exiting of the business and citizens leaving many vacant building that are available for new starts,

What other reason could be attributed for releasing the information in advance?
Today we stand in ecstasy and view that we build today'
Tomorrow we will enter into the plea to have it torn away.

Maybe the release was meant to stir up publicity on forums like these.

Try to cheer up, shadows. Tulsa is getting some good press lately.

I think it's from National Geographic "Adventure" Magazine.  Not the actual "National Geographic" magazine.  I was relieved to discover this distinction, because I had been disappointed to think that NG had lowered themselves to these kinds of silly lists and rankings.
