Why I Don't Eat at Hooter's

First of all, I have eaten at Hooter's about three times in eleven years.  The only times I have been there was due to my other coworkers all heading there for lunch.  I don't understand the infatuation with that place and why so many of us guys go there.  Do people think that women parading around like trophies in orange shorts and pantyhose makes the food taste better?

I am happily married with a family and regardless of my marital status, I would not frequent that place anyway. When you walk into that place, it reminds me of all those cartoons where you have the sheep and the wolves with their drool pouring off their tongues.  I have watched these waitresses closely and for a long time because it took forever just to get my order.  It seems to me that each waitress takes it upon herself to sit down with the customer and chat for awhile.  They act like they are your best friend and bat their flirtatious eyes.

Then they move on to the next table and do the same thing.  Is it that we guys can't see through all of the bull or what? I set my own personal attendance record for this place by eating their twice in this past week and one other time ages ago. I gave in to peer pressure because I would have been the only guy outta five who wasn't going to go. So, I decided to see for myself why this place is always packed. Each time I was there, the service was atrocious.  The waitress sat down and decided to rant about her awful time at school for about ten minutes. Did she really ask the customers about themselves? Nah. Perhaps they get enough peeps in there who just go gaga over getting someone to talk to them that they don't care if they listen the entire time.  Then our order was taken and my fellow coworker and I sat for about 25 minutes.  When the order came, it was missing some stuff so we had to wait another ten minutes for that to come.

Then, when our drinks were refilled, she tried to hand me my friend's drink.  Yet, she swore up and down it was the right one. This is why I pay attention in a place like this. After about an hour of watching the waitresses do their "chat/bat their eyes" rounds to all the tables, we finally got the check.  Then we had to have her split the ticket.  Why oh why in an establishment such as Hooter's would any waitress assume that a couple of guys wouldn't go half?  Most if not all lunches I have with my coworkers, we are asked if it is going to be separate checks. With Hooter's being approximately 97.45% guys, you'd think it would be the standard.

Now that we had the check, I thought I would finally be released from Hooter's Prison. Noooo.  Then we watch our waitress go and flirt with two tables for 15 minutes before heading to the register to have someone ring up the check.  I find it ironic that all of the waitresses I saw were not allowed to transfer money. Then when we get our change back, she got the wrong credit cards for different tables.

During the meal, they had some unfortunate soul who turned 14 (tsk tsk) stand up on a chair to humiliate him in front of the whole restaurant.  He was told to shake his rear while the Hooter's girls sang.  Just lovely. Nothing like seeing some humiliated child shake their groove thing while Im munching on a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. Then they made him yell I LOVE HOOTER'S!! as loud as he could three times. At this point I was waiting for some livestock to be offered up and sacrificed.

The last time I was there, the waitress filled my fries with a lovely glass of water in an attempt to give the refilled glass to my friend. It was at this point she acted like I was her long, lost lover and said she would be right back with a whole plate of new fries!  Gasp!  I'm suddenly in love over a fresh, new plate of starchy goodness!  Not. I also didn't understand why they can charge $15.00 plus for a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and a side of fries. Even the waitress commented the prices weren't reasonable. I guess this place is ok for the select few and I'm not knocking it if it's your thing.  I think now's about the time I go home to a real person.

I have been twice in the last fifteen years and I found it over priced for what you get, and I have had better burgers and wings for a lot less. The first time I ate at the one in Tulsa was in 1994 and at that time a burger and fries with iced tea and tip cost $15.00. I haved to admit that I liked the scenery,(yes I know that you pay for that with the higher prices) but the quality of the food could have been better.

I know that one, it's just west of I-17 on Bell Road. It's about 6 miles from our house.

Why I don't eat at Hooters:

If I want food, I'll go somewhere cheaper and better.

If I want cough in my face, I'll go somewhere cheaper and better.

I expected some breaking news or insight. It's a restaurant operated by cheerleaders, you shouldn't expect great food or intelligent conversation. Consider it "ambiance only."
