No...

If we don't step in and help the Drillers and tell them we want them to stay, they will leave.

I agree that sports teams play the game for a new stadium all over the country. In 26 years, the Drillers never have and now they are getting very good interest by other cities.

Stand back and do nothing if you want, I am encouraging action.
Power is nothing till you use it.

I am not much of a sports fan, but I, too am inspired by your idea of a keep Drillers in Tulsa night. I will try to get some of my friends who are sports fans to go, too. They still sell beer, right?

Last time I went, they did.  After all, that's kind of the point of going to baseball, isn't it?  Drink beer, eat hotdogs & pretzels, drink more beer, etc.... (just try to have an alternative way home)

Tulsans go out to the ballpark
Played right here in our town

We'll buy plenty of CrackerJack
Or all that we can to have you come back

So we root, root, root for the Drillers
If you leave, it will be a shame

I wish there was one, two, three ways to say
We love you Drillers, please stay
Power is nothing till you use it.

It's merely a grey-mail tactic from the Franchise Owner Mr. Lamson.  Don't fall for it.

If the Drillers move to Jenks, I expect that Jenks tax payers will be footing the bill for a new stadium  Unless, it is actually envisioned that the Kaiser River Tax money can be diverted for "River Development" meaning a new stadium ON THE ARKANSAS RIVER, as their reward for Jenks helping pass the Kaiser River Tax.

The County will then just have an empty stadium.  Convicted Oil Racketeer Robert Sutton paid for the stadium, which was originally name Sutton Stadium.  Subsequently renamed upon Federal Felony Conviction as an Oil Racketeer.

If the Drillers move to Jenks, the County will lose a measley $78,000 per year income stream, less than Bell's was actually paying them, UNLESS THE COUNTY ACTUALLY BUILDS THE NEW JENKS STADIUM.

As a business man, Mr. Lamson would be gambling on a KNOWN capture of 4000-5000 fans each and every home game in Driller Stadium, plus a sweet-heart deal on the concession stand percentages vs. an UNKNOWN ATTENDANCE in Jenks.

Again, I think it's just a baiting tactic, for Lamson to extort County concessions in advance of the Kaiser River Tax County-wide vote.

I think you overthink and over-conspire everything.

The Drillers want a new stadium. They have a lease that is up in 2009. They are a class act and are highly sought out anchor tenant for development.

It is not all tied up into oil-conspiracy, extorting county concessions stand percentages, river improvement votes, or the coverup of who shot Kennedy.

Yes, sports teams across America occasionally want a new stadium. The Drillers have never asked in their 26 year history.

I want that stadium to be in Tulsa.

I went to the City Council Meeting tonight and witnessed the passing of a resolution between the Mayor and Council that expressed support and love for the Tulsa Drillers to stay in Tulsa.

I am usually too lazy or afraid to speak before the council on most issues, but this one was special to me. The actual resolution has no standing and was as unofficial as the failed resolution the week before on non-support of the river tax. I knew what was said didn't matter, but I just wanted to say something to a bigger audience than just you guys here on TulsaNow.

I spoke briefly, just saying I was in support and wanted the Tulsa Driller management to know that we love them and don't want them to leave. I babbled some nonsense about how the river plan was spending a lot of many to build community gathering spots and we already had a good one called "the ballpark".

Baseball has been one of my favorite pastimes. I have never lived more than three miles from the ballpark in Tulsa and have gone to at least a dozen games a year for the last 25 years. My first jobs were at the old ballpark, doing everything from batboy to grounds crew to hawking programs to sodas (I had a loud, bellowing call of ICE COLD POP!).

My son's middle name is after a baseball player and I have always said if I when the powerball lottery the first thing I would do is buy the Drillers and change nothing. I really love baseball and the Tulsa Drillers.

The next game is Tuesday night and I plan to go and tell everybody who works there that we want them to stay in Tulsa. Come join me and help me sing that song.

I am sure they would be successful with a stadium in the suburbs because they are such a class act. But they have such a long and illustrious history of baseball in Tulsa and I think would not be the same if they moved to a different town. I am a "regional is good" guy on most things, but I just don't want to share the Drillers.

When the home team scores a run, I want home plate to be in Tulsa.

The Driller's are a business.

Your loyalty is both arcane and totally one-sided.

You love a business owned by someone else?

The club owners have ZERO loyalty to a locale.

They have proved this in the dozens of moves of professional sports franchises, leaving disappointed fans behind every time.

Brooklyn Dodgers, Seattle Sea Hawks, Baltimore Colts, St. Louis Cardinals Football, Milwaukee Braves, Houston Oilers, etc., etc., etc.

Even the former Tulsa Oilers, a AAA-team, moved to New Orleans to become the Zephyrs.

The AA-Drillers filled in behind them.

If the Drillers move to Jenks, maybe Tulsa can  attract a AAA-team, and then promptly put the the Jenks Drillers out of business!

It's only biz-ness, Sonny. It's not personal.  Michael Corleone.

Take THAT, Mr. Lamson 719.  [B)]

Why make personal attacks?

They don't help you advance your argument.

Simply show me where I'm wrong.

Tone down your passion.  Passion matters not when the businessman decides to move the team you love to a new town.   Ask Houston Oilers fans.  St. Louis Cardinal Fans. Etc.

The fans are simply discarded as their usefulness to the Club Owner is over, and the teams moves on.   After you expending all those years and years of loyalty on a THING.

Now, the Angst.

Did BELL's Amusement Park have some loyal patrons?  Apparently, it did not matter to their landlord.

A lease is a two-way street.  Yes, the lease is up after the 2009 baseball season.

Which really doesn't leave the team owner with all that much time to get a new stadium negotiated and built.

Who wouldn't want a new stadium if they don't have to pay for it???????

Don't forget the Minnesota North Stars......This whole thing makes me laugh.....Drillers are going nowhere....The Jenks deal will never happen......

Ah yes, the loyal Minnesota North Stars fans can continue to watch their team as the DALLAS STARS on ESPN....

Yes.

The Drillers have always been a class act. My family goes to many games and everyone on their staff welcomes us, offers assistance and provides very professional customer service. They deserve my business and earn it every game.

What is wrong with having loyalty to a company that has a long history of quality service? How do you choose whom to do business with?

I guess I view loyalty as a two-way street.

For instance, employees who are very loyal to their employer just need to wonder if that loyalty will be reciprocated.

If you're actually getting something of value at an entertainment venue that you loyally adher to, that is a valid feeling.

Relaxation through entertainment is a good pastime.

If the Drillers leave, maybe you can take up gardening, after a suitable period of mourning.

Or, taking long walks along the so-called City "Right-of-Way", vacumning up NO RIVER TAX signs, right out of peoples yards......

As a young man, I recall Lloyd, I mean Bear, having this to say about his career options as an adult:

I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that.

While Mookie and Yogi are fine, upstanding names, neither played for my favorite MLB team, the St. Louis Cardinals. My son's name comes from a Cardinal player.

Tonight is the Driller game.

Get some free tickets and come out and tell the Drillers we want them to stay in Tulsa.
