lol, then all we have to do is find 18,000 Oklahoman's who voted for her.  [;)] I don't want to turn this into a political thread, but I couldn't resist that one.

The arena will probably be slightly behind schedule for opening (aren't all construction projects always behind schedule)?

That means that the first event could be a fancy gala for president-elect Hillary.

The Beatles reunion could open...

Queen with Paul Rodgers. That would rock (you, rock you).

Power is nothing till you use it.

Looking pretty thin on arena talent......

Howie has been putting together some great shows at the OKC zoo amp this summer...

huh? a theoretical, wish-list rambling of a bunch of forum-monkeys has you convinced that the arena opening will be thin on talent?
for ****s sake, the arena opener might be a ****ty act but you won't know it now and certainly not here...

touring schedules are rarely booked more than 9 months out...

the opening act will most likely have to do with who is out on a national tour pushing an album and what acts happen to be in/near the midwest than anyone's personal wishes...
barring some darkhouse (i.e. garth) popping up for a one night only or readily available local standards (i.e. leon)...

if memory serves, the grand opening for the ford arena included a choir and a bunch of "talented" local musicians...

I just thought of an interesting idea while painting the garage. Bear with me.

Let the arena book George Strait, with Asleep at the Wheel as his backing band.

Pluses:

-- Strait can fill any arena you can name. So booking him would definitely be profitable.

-- Strait loves Western swing, and so does Tulsa, which leads to ...

-- ... Asleep at the Wheel, which can provide the Bob Wills thing and Strait can do the Tommy Duncan thing.

Lest you think this is a crazy idea, Asleep at the Wheel has been doing a tour as the backing band for Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Ray Price. They not only did Western swing tunes, but the other hit singles by the singers. AATW is a versatile band. I can attest. The version of Willie's "Always on My Mind" was sublime.

Let's make this a big one-time thing, like when Bing Crosby occasionally sang with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, simply because he liked the band and the rhythms (and their schedules crosses paths, of course).

Strait could devote one-third to half the concert to Bob Wills tunes and the rest to his hits. It'd be a celebration of Western swing, country music and Tulsa. I think Strait -- and the audience -- would get a huge kick out of it.

That's a great idea. Strait performed on Asleep at the Wheel's first Bob Wills tribute album.

Reba performed on the second tribute album -- she'd be a big draw, too, I'd think.

(Your Clapton/"Tulsa sound" idea was a good one, too.)

Alas, I suspect that those in charge would regard a western swing opener as "too blue collar" for Tulsa's sophisticated image.

I'd rather hear AATW at Cain's anyway.

I'm sure I'll be moved back in the Tulsa area by the time this arena is finished being built, so here's my ideas.

Christina Aguilera
Justin Timberlake
Snoop Dogg
Eric Clapton
Genesis (I heard they were having a reunion tour)

And I hope to see you there!

Ahem....did I ever say my friend saw Stevie Wonder at the OKC Zoo Amp?

I have been to some tremendous shows there and will withhold throwing about counter intelligence hoping you are either going to a "meeting" or headed for the meds.

I really do not care who opens the arena. Tulsa audiences for the most part are lame outs. I shy away from the crowds here. Too many butt holes.

I like the idea of the Tulsa sound with Eric Clapton.  Throw in Leon Russell & JJ Cale, and I'd pay a LOTTT of money.

kylieosu

DMB, Pearl Jam, or the Clapton/Cale shows alllll sound like excellent picks to me.

"withhold throwing about counter intelligence hoping you are either going to a "meeting" or headed for the meds"??...
please don't hold back...
are you going to send me more PMs calling me a "chicken****" and physically threatening me just like you did last year?

did i ever say your were confused about him being at the zoo amp? i was inferring that you were confused about it being "very good"...

since you don't care, why post in this thread? but you have to, you can't help it...
you're a habitual contrarian and make outlandish generalizations...

anyone who thinks okc crowds (especially at that neglected, ****hole amp) are less "lame" or more "butt hole" free than a tulsa show, especially the cains, is delusional...

i was backstage for an amazing performance at the amp this summer watching the first 10 feet of people dance and sing while the rest of the hillside sat firmly parked on there fat asses...

between the ambivalent crowd, the "luxurious" mobile homes and the overly aggressive ex-biker "security" the band was not happy...

you never explained how any rational person could make the logical leap that the the arena will be "thin on talent" from reading this thread...
