The arena will be thin on talent because of the death of the super star. The talent pool has gotten quite large while the fans for any single star have been spread thin. The internet is a wonderful thing. In some ways, it has become our undoing. Just ask Elton John...

Plain and simple.

Was a big Dave Matthews fan in the 90s but kinda lost track of them the past few years, except for the time when their tour bus dropped a buncha crap (literally) on unsuspecting tourists taking a boat tour on the Chicago River.

Okay.  Can't resist.

Hmmm.... just so you know... Dave Matthews Band kicked off their 2007 US summer tour July 8 at one of those "soccer-only" stadiums at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL... [:D]

Last month, this very, very cool event also played there.... [8D]

Clapton finally came out on stage again during "the country segment," joining Gill, Lee & Crow for "Living on Tulsa Time."

I have seen DMB every year since 1998.  My wife always buys tix for me for my birthday...They get mildly annoying during election years, but other than that they have only improved with time...though I'm still praying for Leroy Moore to have some type of accident that keeps him from playing the sax, if that's what you call what he does the sax as "playing it."  [;)]

I wouldn't mind Clapton, but he's been on this kick for quite some time where he just won't play any of his old standards.  I have friends who have seen him several times in the last few years, and every time without fail it's the same complaint.  "He wouldn't play anything I knew..."

I can sympathize with Clapton, and as a former musician (still pretending to be one every once and a while), I can understand the "Play sum Skynard" mentality that I'm sure he gets tired of, but Clapton seems to be consistently filling up his set lists with obscure blues tunes...I don't know how long he can keep doing that and drawing crowds.

Ted Nugent would do quite well and lots of stick people would come.

He could open for Kenny Chesney

Facing a draft, Nugent bravely wet his pants

Top 50 musical acts:

You can also search by city to see who is already slated to be here. I'm afraid Kansas, POD, Hanson, and ICP are the best we can muster at the moment.

Actually, BB King is at the Brady in January (I'm there).

To whomever suggested GWAR:
Thu    10/18/07    GWAR    @ Tulsa's Caine's Ballroom.

BE THERE! (I wont)

Lets try to do some creative, outside the box, thinking here.

Perhaps not AN opening act, but a series of acts.

Perhaps have a series of concerts, kind of like D-fest. Make it a national or international draw. The Greats of Jazz and the Blues from around the world. Disco Fever anyone? Something thats not just a concert, but an event.

Perhaps start some sort of contest and award 5 million dollars in prizes, or simply bragging rights. There is a "Eurovision", is there an american counterpart where each state sends a contestant? If not, lets do that, if they have one for the US, lets do a global contest. Best new musical group... on earth. Or a Continental, Battle of the Bands.

We often holler that we cant get the big groups or events here. But things like D-Fest and Tulsa Tough have shown that we are perfectly capable of creating something unique and making it great. Who needs to "bring it in" when we can make our own. That is what will really make Tulsa attractive and stand out anyway. Constantly trying to pull in the same ol crap everyone else gets sounds kind of lame in comparison.

What other annual or bi annual event do you think we could come up with that could become a draw?  A new event? Something that puts Tulsa on the map?
"When you only have two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other."-Chinese proverb. "Arts a staple. Like bread or wine or a warm coat in winter. Those who think it is a luxury have only a fragment of a mind. Mans spirit grows hungry for art in the same way h

Perhaps we could get one of these "blow your sock off...!" acts.....

they are probably already booked...

Okie2

Why not something different that would appeal to the whole family, like Cirque du Soleil?

Three day opening each day featuring a different genre....or segment of the entertainment industry....

Cirque de Sole?

Country?

Soul?

Jam Band?

I think the artist has something here....I just returned from a premium 4 day event which would be hard to duplicate here. The budget was $6,000,000. They sold $7,000,000 in tickets and concessions. The profit went towards youth musical education programs...

Phish....Yawn.......All that garbage sounds the same.....
