Hurricane!

I'm off to beer up for kickoff.  See you slugs on the flip side.  I'm heavily invested in this game based on my trash talking on the ULM boards... so if I limp back in tomorrow you'll know why.

Tulsa played a little sloppy and will need to improve in order to beat BYU in a couple of weeks.

They also need to try out another kicker.

Tulsa Hurricane 35

Louisiana-Monroe 17
Power is nothing till you use it.

cannon_fodder

For some reason we NEVER have a decent kicker, what gives?  Of all the positions, you'd think you could find a kicked.

Out of bounds on kick offs THREE TIMES plus an off sides. 2 missed field goals within 40 yards.
Luckily we never really had to punt, so we didn't give anyone a chance to mess that up.

Otherwise, domination.  Smith screwed up major with the turner over/TD, sop long as its out of th way now.  We killed the last 20 minutes of that game, easily could have scored another 10-20 points I'm afraid.  ULM was just done and we ran it until it ended.

GG.  Will post stats in the AM.

I was wondering what posters here feel about Michigan coach Lloyd Carr? I think he needs to go. Lloyd Carr did a good job against the old OSU coach John Cooper and the Wolverines won many games against the Buckeyes. Since Tressel came to power for the Buckeyes, the Wolverines/Lloyd Carr won only one game against them. That cannot stand.

Lloyd Carr protested too much when he went undefeated, as did Nebraska, and they had to share the National Championship (1997 I think?).  If Nebraska had a chance to play Michigan that year, I'd have bet on Nebraska.  Michigan was way over-hyped, they weren't that good and neither was the BIG10.  Not that year.

I don't like Carr, don't like Michigan, they're a good match for each other.  Especially if they lose a few more of those "automatic win" games like they did against Appalachian State.  Possibly the biggest upset in the history of NCAA football.  Glad I was around to see that happen.

cannon_fodder

I don't think it is enough to automatically fire the guy, but if the team does not come out with a 180 and make a real show for the rest of the season... then I'd fire him for sure.

Strong - check
Fast - check
Bigger - check
More talented - check (raw talent)
At Home - check

And they still lost.  The coach is the only real explanation.

In 2006, Colorado was upset by I-AA Montana State 19-10.  MSU went on to win it's conference, and lose in the playoffs to Appalachian State.

Colorado won 2 games that entire year.

In 2005, Oklahoma State opened up the season by beating the same Montana State 15-10.  In the same week, TU and OU both lost.  After sizing everything up, to the shock of a few, I basically said OSU performance was by far the worst of the three that week.  And I said if they keep it up, they won't win in the BigXII.

Oklahoma State won 4 games that year.  Only 1, against a BIGXII opponent.

In 2004, Mississippi State was upset by I-AA Maine, 9-7.  Maine turned out to be a mediocre I-AA team, only winning 5 that season.

Mississippi State won only 3 games.

D-I teams playing against I-AA teams are literally meaningless, UNLESS, the D-I team losses or has significant trouble.  All things being equal, a D-I team should always hang a lot of points on a I-AA team.  Any D-I team should always win against a AA team.

But that's not what happens, the best teams in I-AA can beat the worst teams in Division I.  This doesn't bode well for Michigan.

Porky

I believe it was in 1959 when OU got beat by someone that not only knocked them out of the rankings but it still holds as the worst lost in the polls of all time.

MichaelC

There's still a decent chance that Michigan can turn it around.  All those other losses by D-I teams to I-AA teams, were low scoring.  Michigan did put up some points.

Appalachian State's QB may be one of those freaks of nature, like Steve McNair when he played at Alcorn State.  If that's the case, Michigan may still have the team to get above 500.  Some of those Big10 teams aren't very strong on offense this year.

OU was defeated by Northwestern with Ara Parseghian as coach.....OU finished that season 7-3 and played Syracuse in the Orange Bowl and won....We also won the Big 8.....

Yup.  It's a no win-situation for Oregon.

If Oregon wins, they beat the team that can't beat a I-AA team.  No glory there.

If Oregon loses, they're worse than the team that can't beat a I-AA team.  Horror story.
