Barry Sanders.  Hardly ever injured, had several years left in him, didn't too much care for the attention, was in sight of smashing the rushing record (the same one that Emmitt Smith smashed by hobbling years past his prime, with Arizona).  Just decided he had enough money, decided he wasn't required to play for anyone, and wandered off into virtual silence to do something else.  I like that.

Just a few months after he retired, Walter Payton died.  I always kind of figured Sanders knew what was going on with Payton, and that he may not have wanted that record.  That idea seems to fit Sander's personality anyway.

Every once in a long while, they show that Holiday Bowl game, OSU vs Wyoming.

Barry Sanders (1 of 2 OSU hall of famers) is a rarity in today's athletics... a class act.  I never heard anything disparaging about him.  He played the game (well) and kept his head down and mouth shut off the field.
