hello, im new to the tulsa area, ive been a dj for around 11 yrs, and producing for about 7 yrs. i was surprised to see that tulsa at a glance has almost no electronic music scene, almost all indie rock and whatnot, not that i have anything against indie rock, i grew up on punk and hardcore, but as i got older i developed a taste for good electronic dance music. recently i applied to guitar center's pro audio department, got the job, and now im wondering, should i think about starting an electronic scene here? or, if there is indeed an underground party scene with "real" dj's can someone please point me in the right direction lol, thx:)

well you're about 2 weeks late for the OK Electric festival: http://www.myspace.com/okelectricWhile you're not going to find a strong scene there is one. Check out the bands listed on the above myspace.

Throw in some DJ Sasha Dith, some Frankie Knuckles and some Junior Vasquez, maybe some Brian Eno and some Kraftwerk or Tangerine Dream, you'll have a festival, guaranteed.

so what would you say is the most popular style then? house? that i guess is the standard anywhere, and by all means i can play it, but i am a psy trance artist. i play full on psychedelic trance, which by no means is like traditional trance music. if you are not familiar with it, i can elaborate.

I dig on House, as well as Industrial and Trance. Eurodance is some of my fave.

well, i have to be honest, psy trance is a far cry from euro dance hall trance. it's about 20x more complex, and the tempo is a bit faster... for some examples of my work, check out the tracks on my page at myspace.com/babarsatarva
check out "destination emagination" and the "new beginning rmx"
the first and last tracks are a bit dark, and takes some warming up to for most.

Now that you are in tulsa, submit some track to irokradio.com and get yourself some free publicity.

I used to love techno, industrial, electronic, etc. and spent a lot of time at SRO back in the day. I guess I'm getting too old. I won't even go to In The Raw on 61st any more because they play it so loud you have to shout over it to talk to the person sitting next to you.

There used to be an active scene back before 2002 that was shared between Tulsa and OKC. Ever since OKCRaves.com was taken down, I haven't really heard about many other parties. I know that we used to have several promoters in town. Here are some of the bigger ones that I can recall: Deeper Productions UATVertigoVinyl Technic Zoedapop - No longer promoting You can also check out: http://www.rave-planet.com/
