I feel your pain. I lived near St. Louis for eight years, and got spoiled by The Hill.

I remember a great place in St. Louis called Lombardos...

Vivianos in Belleville, Ill. was a pretty good family-owned place.

I lived in Belleville for probably 20 years. Very familiar with Vivianos and Lombardos.

Heh, Jim Viviano is one of my good friends.  He stays with me every year when he comes down to shoot photos at the Chili Bowl Nationals.  I guess he'll be here in about two months.  The holidays are never over till "Cousin Jimmy" goes home.

His brother re-opened Viviano's for awhile as a catering gig and take out, but I think their time has passed.

You guys are are a bunch of Italian sausages.

The best Italian place in St. Louis is Rigazzi's. It is the oldest Italian Restaurant on the hill. We used to fill a car with guys and see Cardinal games every summer.

We would start with the combo appetizer platter of toasted ravioli, toasted canneloni and grilled portabella strips. We order a couple of sandwiches split four ways, usually a meatball and a chicken parmiciano with a couple of sides of the garlic buttered broccoli. Follow that with pasta arrabiatta and a large sausage and hamburger pizza. Add in four frozen fishbowls of beer and two desserts of tiramasu and spumoni.

Feeds four very hungry adults leaving a big tip for under a hundred dollars total.

No, the best on The Hill is Zia's or Charlie Gitto's. Both are terrific.

There are others that a probably even better, but you'll need a second mortgage.

St. Louisans like Rigazzi's fine, but they know the other places are better.

I went to high school with some Vivianos. I cannot remember first names, though.

In my opinion, Giovanni's was the best on The Hill. Very classy, individual table wait staff, and the head chef will come out to gab.

I have been to the CharlieGitto's at Harrah's Casino, but not the one on the hill. It was good, but very pricy.

I trust your judgement since you convinced us to go to Napoli's in west Tulsa. I will give Zia's a chance next time I make it to the hill.

Make that three on Napoli's.  I liked Bella Italia a lot when it was still around, but that's been gone for ten years or better now. He was one of the original partners in Ti-Amos, or so I was told.  I liked Dalesandro's better when it was still on Main Mall.

I can still out-run Buzz so I don't worry too much about being critical of him. [;)]

Took the advice and went to Napoli's in BA for lunch today. Very good.

I am happy that people actually like the Napoli's at 61st and 33rd West.  I live between Jenks and Sapulpa and think their Carbonara is really good.

I love Mary's on Cherry Street for their Pesto Bread.  It is great with the marinara they give you.  Their other dishes are "pretty good."  In terms of pesto in general, I like mine, but mine does not translate to bread like Mary's.

My wife loves Ti Amo's.  That's just because we spent our first anniversary at their old 21st Street location.  It was the first time we had wine. lol  We still drink Bolla Valpolicella every now and then, which was either their house wines or one of their house wines at the time.

ARGUS

Dalesando's is a place where I used to take the best wife I ever had for her birthday. I like their print ads... father and son fighting in the kitchen.

New to Tulsa and wondering if there is a good, 'authentic', Italian-style grocery store here? Where you can buy sausage, bread, etc.

Thanks!
