For those fans of Eddie Izzard...here's his version of what happened when the Pilgrams came to America (from "Dressed to Kill"):

"...Ah, this is where our God has brought us to! We can practice our religion here, we can raise a family. There's nobody here!" (Mimes stepping back and bumping into someone) "Excuse me! ...There's nobody here!  Yes, a land empty of human existence..." (points over his shoulder) "Who the f**k are these guys?" (mimes a headdress) "What's all this, please? ...No, we don't want any of your food, thank you very much! Just PUT SOME CLOTHES ON!"

"Meanwhile, that winter... 'Excuse me, do you have any food?  (mimes the headdress) I LOVE all this, love the idea! Yes, I'm sorry, we were a bit brusque when we first arrived... we didn't realize you OWNED the entire country! (But you have no system of ownership? Hmmm, interesting! Maybe that can come in useful later.)  Food! Thank you very much, very nice. Yes, there're more of us coming but we'll keep our promises.'"

Really Tim?  Take a look at the improvement for all tribal members due to annexation of Indian lands.  The same people who are protesting benefit from our roads, our schools, developments in medicine, jobs outside tribal interests, etc. ad nauseum.

Ahh the burdens of mighty whitey!  I would rather have self-determination than a new TV.

This sounds like something worth building another casino over.

What tribe is Huntzinger anyhow?

FWIW, my views are crafted mostly from being closely related by marriage to someone pretty deep in Creek tribal politics and I never heard him complain once about the progress which has come to the tribes since 1907.

Bleeding Heart Nation, Congress Screwed the Native Americans by Renegging on its Agreement Band

Great grannie Jessie's lineage is in question, and because of her dark features, hair, and features was rumoured to be of some Canadian tribal origin.  It is just as likely that she was Black Irish, though.

As many people as Congress has screwed over the years, I think we need to demand a new Congressional prophylactic law...

Seems like a Jewish tribe.

True story: I had a friend from my college days at UNO (University of New Orleans) who just happened to be Jewish (on his father's side) and Native American (Choctaw, to be exact, on his mother's side). The guy was a laugh and a half on so many things, but really serious when it came to political issues-the kind of guy who could make Al Franken look right-wing!
