Old Lady on Brady closing the doors?

Look for a new operator and business plan soon. This will allow for some needed remodeling.

I thought Peter Mayo was working out a deal to sell it to Steve Alter. The lease/purchase deal was supposed to go through about now.

Does anyone know if that is still the plan?

I noticed Wednesday that they are starting to reroof it. Obviously there is some plan, just not a disclosed one as of yet.

The Areema and east endz districts seem to take priority over the Brady ....

"This whole area of town needs a lot of attention," Mayo says. "There are three venues here -- Cain's, the Brady and the new arena. This area of town needs to be an entertainment district."

According to owner Peter Mayo, the theater will remain closed until March or April.

During that time, he plans some repairs to the building.

He tells 2NEWS that he will no longer lease the building to an outside company.

Mayo plans to book acts himself in the future.

Maybe PM will do some occasional shows. Hope the previous lessee did not harm the place. Too bad Alter or Johnnie Brachard could not get the deal done.

Sounds to me like he is trying to turn the brady into a more profitable venue. I think as long as the boulder bridge is closed, brady will suffer.

Peter Mayo was on channel 6 tonight and said he was just closing for a few months to do some minor things and some "cleanups". He said the Brady would be back booking shows in March of next year.

I was hoping for more. I love the Brady, but it really shows it's age lately.

The Brady owner should have lots of "promoter" contacts. The big question in Tulsa is....how many acts, how many concert goers and how much disposable income.

JB is a promoter.
He was promoting a buy of the Brady with opm.
The group he had assembled may still do shows at Mabee center....maybe. It's looking sad too.

The Promoter had an exclusive contract with the Brady to book acts.  In most entertainment fields a promoter is like an exclusive distributor.   No promoter contract, no national acts.

Its not the guy who runs around putting fliers on windshields at Wal-Mart.

That may be, but just because its a 'national' act doesn't necessarily make it profitable.  The promoter had a few good acts, but ventriloquists  and whirling dervishes along with the semi-retired and one hit wonder groups???  They had some strange acts and while ticket prices were often pretty steep for 'B' acts, I'll bet they overpaid them.  As far as music goes, you don't have to be a big-time promoter to attract shows that will sell out, but most acts will be hit and miss.  The Brady is a great venue, I think they could get by long enough to attract a new lease or contract with a group to do promotions.

I hear ya jne. Named acts like BB King often have exclusive contracts with XYZ promoter or their agent will only deal with a set list of promoters.  The whole industry is set up to make sure the pie is distributed around.

Without that hookup, I am under the impression that it would be hard for the Brady to keep acts booked.  They could have local bands play every weekend and the like, but to justify a 4K seat venue it would be hard.

I have minimal experience in this regard (while in undergrad I worked on a committee to book Nelly, P Funk, 3 Doors Down and the like to campus... it was run as a student non-profit.  Pretty cool actually.), but there it is as I understand it.  Totally open to correction if someone has a better feel or if my view is antiquated/flat wrong.

All it takes is money and contracts.
But the promoter who books a number of shows in a tour has a leg up.
The Brady will get a few shows for this reason.
The Brady will line themselves up with a couple of regional promoters who need a show filler here and there for 1800 seats.(not 4000).
The main problem lies with the entire music industry which sucks these days.

Man, I sure hope they can turn it around and make it work.  I personally like the Brady, and the Brady Arts District badly needs the anchor that it could provide.

Amen to that. But there are higher priorities....like the east end which has gotten most the attention during the last several years.
