Cox Communications outages

I know of a lot of people who do not have any of their Cox Communications services. This dates back to the storm, and many of them are in areas where there was no damage and no widespread power outages. In fact, a few of them live in areas where it's hard to even tell we had an ice storm.

My power came back on yesterday, but Cox is still out so I have no phone/internet/cable, which is minor, but Cox doesn't seem to have any idea when they're going to get service restored.

Anyone here have Cox that's working? What part of town are you in?

There are lots of South Tulsa areas without Cox. I'm at 81st and Toledo - all services dead since Monday. My Brother is near 91st and Memorial, also all services dead since Monday. I have friends near 71/Harvard, 91/Yale, 101/Yale, and they have the same thing.

this has to be horrible PR for cox's phone service.  If I were making decisions in AT&T's marketing dept.  you better believe i'd be attacking the hell out of them, for having phone service down for going on 5 days in places now.  I'm sure they will and rightfully so.

you'd think if they wanted to be considered a serious player in the phone business, they'd have better response / uptime, or at least be able to compete w/ AT&T.  Instead Cox phone subscribers get nothing but an epic failure.

Internet reliability isnt a matter of life / death, (well to some it might be), but the lack of phone service most certainly could be.

I believe we have cox service at my place at 161st and admiral. I've not plugged up the cable modem to check the phone or internet yet.

What's even worse about Cox's phone service is they have no provision to service dead phones during off hours. So, if you get home at 5:00 and your phone is dead, too bad. They'll schedule an appointment for you, which can be several days off.

Their comment is, "You have a cell phone, don't you?"

And I tell them, "Yes, but I'm not paying YOU for cell phone service. I'm paying you for a land line, and THAT is the ISSUE here."

Every time I see a Cox ad I get angry, especially if it's one about their service vs. satellite, or how dependable they are, or how great their customer service is. BULL. It's all a lie.

FOTD

I will never be beholden to one service....

The internet stayed up due to ATT....

No cable. Although they were the firs to arrive to attach my cable line....I'd notified them by email...

Bundle up? nah

if having a land line is so important to you and you cant keep a cell phone going for days then yes you need some POTS.  i don't have these issues so when Cox phone goes down for me I could really give a ****.

I insist on having at least one regular corded phone in the house for just such occasions.
Landline was as reliable as ever long after the house was dark and cold, and I remember thinking how screwed Cox customers must be right now.

Got to remember that when Ma Bell built the system their reliability standards were really high -- just short of withstanding WWIII.  Cox was into quick-and-dirty market penetration and now that people will be figuring that out im sure a lot will be unbundling their services.

Even a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) at the cable modem wouldnt have helped Cox customers as they peter out after a few hours, while landline gets it's power from bank after bank of batteries and generators at the neighborhood central office.

AT&T is going to murder them in the "we told you so" department.

I got Cox back about two or three hours after power came back up.  My next door neighbor to the south still doesn't have her Cox.  I'm guessing her line got knocked down.  My next door neighbor to the north doesn't have his SBC.  What good is electricity w/o digital cable and internet anyhow? [:P]

I'm feeling very, very fortunate I have all services restored and I didn't lose lines between the pole and the house.

Sheesh, I'm watching the replay of last night's news on 6, they are saying some people in Florence Park might not have power until after Xmas due to extensive damage between the pole and the house.

This is exactly why I didn't let Cox sucker me into buying the bundle!!

ATT is a little better, but not a whole lot because phone and internet are still coming through the same line. The only difference is the tv is through a dish. I didn't think that dish's worked that great during storm anyways because of interference.

Really now, landlines are so passe!

I've had really crappy cell phone coverage this week (AT&T) due to tower outages.  Our landlines at work were out till Weds.  I'm not sure if that had more to do with power being out at the switch or what happened.  The switch is across the street and they had a generator there for awhile.  Not sure what that was all about.  Our industrial park was a ghost town till Thursday.

I have never had a cell phone, nor do I have Cox internet or TV, so I won't comment on that.

I have just one old fashioned Ma Bell land line at my home, and it went out Monday morning due to a fallen tree branch downing the drop from the pole to my house.  I called AT&T Monday night, and they said someone would be out to fix it on Thursday.  They arrived Thursday afternoon at 4:00 PM, reconnected my house, and viola, I had clear phone service again.  Apparently AT&T has had very little problem with main feeder lines, mostly just problems with downed drops to individual homes.

I will never give up my land line, as long as I can afford it.
