Burning of the Debris??

I had a thought - after all of the damage caused by the Ice Storm and subsequent power outages basically disconnecting Tulsans - what about turning this into a neat thing that will bring Tulsans together for an event, just like the Burning of the Greens, but this time - the Burning of the Debris.  Burn away the memories of your now lack of curb appeal and start anew. - Just figured there were tons of debris and it would be a good way to get rid of it.

seems like there are far more environmentally friendly things that could be done.
What we need to be doing is finding a way to thank the out of state crews and show them not all Oklahomans are thieves.

They tried that after the ice storm in 1987. Piled it up on the north side of the IPE and set it on fire. Well, it was more of a smolder than a fire. The wood was too green.

What is environmentally unfriendly about burning the downed branches/trees?

You do realize that burning them turns them into Co2, volatile organics, and residual waste (ash).  Mulching turns them into essentially the same things, with the difference being the particulates remain in the pile instead of drifting temporarily into the air.  I'm no chemist, but it is not as if burning a branch transforms it into noxious fumes.

The particulates could be problematic for some people, but that's not really environmentally unfriendly, that's just people unfriendly. []
