Be sure to get more than one bid... We had them give us a bid on removing a tree and trimming a couple of others last spring. They were 2X as high as the company we ended up hiring. The one we used is a well-known entity in Tulsa (insured, bonded, etc) that did a wonderful job, and not some fly-by-night outfit.

In my industry, we see a lot of companies that take pictures of their crews doing stupid things....

I don't believe there is even a height limit
on riding the ball, due to the weight of the
ball, even if that is not valid, I know he exceeded the 8 foot rule.  I got the impression from the video that they own their own crane truck.  As you say, very few crane companies
woud tolerate such, I use a bunch of them.

Eye protection is another one.  As the guy is cutting the tree and finds the nail, he is wearing no eye protection.  Ear protection
is there, but no eye protection.

Debatable is the body protection.  Most of the loggers I have seen wear arm covers and leggings.

The guy is a case nonetheless.

I bet they were making it look exciting for the camera.  No professional would ever REALLY do such junk and stay in business.  The workers comp and fines would shut them down.

If you look closely, when he is "riding the ball" a couple of scenes later he is maybe 5 feet up the tree.  I'm guess they road it to their.  It's doubtful a crane company would allow such behavior (trust me) AND have it filmed.  Not to mention, surely a tree company that seemingly large has a man basket.

Don't really know, just taking a guess.  They looked liked they knew what they were doing.

No, you should NEVER ride the ball/block.  And good catch on the eye protection.  I was just saying that it appears that they went out of their way to look maverick.  Why, I'm not really sure.

and... sent you a PM.

why be such a loser and talk so badly about someone? - the fact is, the first commentator here is jealous of a lifestyle and position they'll never see in their lifetime so what better way to make up for it than to write so cynnically! sorry(not really), but get a life loser !

I understand why you defend him.

You are one of the guys he hired to produce music for his TV show.

Power is nothing till you use it.

Oooook.

I'm willing to bet I pay more in taxes than you make in a year.

Okay, the newbie who is so offended got me to at least click the link to youtube.  This is what happens when a reality show junkie has enough money to produce his own reality show.  Personally, I'd use the $160K to put a kid through Harvard, but it's his money.

The schtick is pretty much the same as every other reality show on A & E, and he's obviously a fan of R. Lee Ermey ("Don't touch that dial or I'll dump a truck load of logs in your yard!").

No harm, no foul, just not real compelling stuff.  I bet his insurance guy crapped down both legs when he saw the Bobcat doing a wheelie passing the Benz.

I can't ever figure out some of the "related videos" on Youtube, what does: "Two girl kissing! LESBIAN KISS ASIA !!! BEST KISS EVER !!!!!" have to do with tree service? That's kinda the opposite isn't it?

Sorry, I lost the thread.  Got the PM, and replied.

Whatever works for the tree guy, but I know he won't be trimming trees for us!

You talking to me?

Am I really jealous of his lifestyle?

Come on.  My guys climb 1100 feet and laugh
at it.  Why would I be jealous of you?

I just think it is laughable that someone would risk everything for a silly video.  We have properties from Maine to Colorado, and I am not willing to risk them on violating OSHA regs, much less showing to the world that I violate them.  That is not smart, and not fair to the people who depend on us for their living.

Hey, but Cowboy, you have a great day.

Someone talked to Mr. Novak this afternoon, then told me that he said the show is going national (hearsay your honor, find an exception!). I have no reason to doubt that Mr. Novak said that to my source, but I don't know Mr. Novak and it seems a little odd to me.  But for whatever it's worth, there's the hot rumor.
