This morning I drove past the Braum's on Lewis at 15th and they were tearing it down.  Are they rebuilding or have they sold that parcel to someone else?  The building was about half way torn down.

Last time I was inside it looked like it did on the outside now.

Yeah, I think they have a policy not to clean anything in a Braum's, ever!

You notice that in the older Braum's locations, the guys behind the ice cream are about 8" to 10" taller because they are standing on top of years of filth.  When thier heads start to brush against the grease stained drop ceiling they tear the building down.

The Braums near my house at 28th and Harvard is very nice, inside and out.  They seem to clean it frequently. [8D]

I used to go there quite often when I lived on the other side of 14th Street (which was seized by the city for Albertsons).  They had quite a line waiting during the ice storm since they were the only ones around with power, but it was an older store and it was obvious they werent investing much in it.  28th & Harvard is the nice one these days, and you cant beat their fries.

There was an entry in the business section of the World a couple of Sundays ago indicating that Braum's had applied for a building permit for new commercial construction on that site. I think that location was the last surviving old style Braum's left in operation. That building was about 25 years past due for replacement.

I was at the Braums at 15th last week.  They are tearing it down to build a new building, expanded like the one on Harvard.

Braum's to debut new store design in Tulsa

Braum's has started construction on a store in Tulsa that will be the first of its kind for the ice cream and dairy chain.

The prototype design -- dubbed "model X" by company leaders -- will be located at 1415 S. Lewis Ave., where a previous Braum's store was torn down last month.

The new store, which will have about 70 full- and part-time employees, is scheduled to open in late spring. The cost was not disclosed by company officials; however, a city building permit lists the cost at $800,000.

"The old store on South Lewis was built 33 years ago and was in need of replacing," company President Drew Braum said in a press release.

"Our goal was to build a new, more modern, larger store on the same lot. Because our newer stores are requiring more square footage (primarily due to the expansion of our grocery area), we designed the 'model X.' "

The prototype will have almost 5,000 square feet. Interior features will include stained concrete floors and carpeting.

Along with Braum's traditional fountain and grill area and dining room, the store will have a larger "Fresh Market" grocery area with an expanded product line including more than 150 fresh meats, fruits and vegetables; dairy items; and bakery products.

New exterior design features include a large modular brick tower and open frame canopies.

Braum's, which is family owned and operated, has more than 280 stores throughout Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Missouri and Arkansas.

It's been almost a month since I said how much I like Braum's markets.  Very handy.  I learned waiting in line with some milk yesterday that they have their own dairy herd that has less hormones or antibiotics or LSD or some such thing.  Not sure I care or why it matters, but it sounds good to me.

I love being able to walk to get milk or other common items.  Well, actually, add Ranch Acres (an extra 2 blocks), Homeland (eww), the pharmacies, liquor store, bank, restaurants, Walgreens, Blockbuster, music shop, Staples, and pet food store and I can almost get anything I want by walking.

I had been wondering what was going on ever since I saw it torn down.  That location had gotten scary.  It's a little closer to me than 28th & Harvard, glad to see we will get a fresh look and a clean building.

Your son doesn't even have to walk very far when you tell him to "go play on the freeway."
