If you are unsure of your current council district, look here.

Questionnaires were sent to all of the candidates, those responses can be found by clicking their name:

The current candidates are:
   G.T. Bynum
   Paul Tay
   Philip Kates
   Roger Lowry (no response)

Thoughts, opinions?

I don't really know much about these dudes, other than Santa.  I'll have to take Kates if I'm deciding by these responses alone.
Vote for the two party system!
-one one Friday and one on Saturday.

GT Bynum would spend the $5 million on . . . roads?  Why not spend it on something the City isn't aleady planning to do?

But his "double-speak" response to the immigration question troubles me:

quote:
This isn't just for "suspected illegal aliens", which could arguably lead to racial profiling, but rather for all individuals arrested. It is also solely limited to individuals who have been arrested. Those are important distinctions. With them in mind, I support the resolution.

This is a solution in search of a problem.  Unless you run checks on everyone, you're guilty of racial profiling, and running checks on everyone is very inefficient.  Given that most arrestees are not illegal, this is a costly solution with very little (if any) benefit.

And just FYI - even the "arrested" enjoy the presumption of innocence, also an "important distinction."

Call me crazy, but I prefer the police verify the identity of those in their custody and that includes their legal status in the country. It if were left up to the bleeding hearts, the police would have to book people in jail on the honor system.

You're Crazy. (you asked for it)

You would prefer the police spend their valuable time checking the resident status - not the identity - but the resident status - of everyone they arrest?  How long do you suppose it takes to check every 17 year old white kid, every black female . . . Carroll Fisher . . .

Does law enforcement have a national database containing the name and vitals of every U.S. citizen?  Are U.S. citizens even obligated to register with the U.S. government?  What documentation should I carry in this pass-card world to justify my existence?  What second form of identification will appease you?

Sounds like xenophobia masquerading under the guise of law and order.

Looks like we might get a response from the horses mouth.

I like what Bynum has to say on most accounts, was surprised that Tay's response was not as whack job as I feared it would be (of course he has his moments, but I agree with much of it), and Kates had reasoned responses.   I'll have to read over that more closely to give a detailed opinion, but I'm impressed with District 9s choices (even Tay has good ideas, still surprised - I thought he was just a nut and usually stop listening to him when he tells his "biking while Asian" joke).

BTW, what user name is Paul under these days?  I lose track...

ps. Lowry is off my list.  If you are too lazy to return a survey asking about things you should already have an opinion on, I assume you're not really interested in the election.

That's right.  Thanks RM.

By the way, is my assumption correct that this Bynum is related to the same family of the "GT Bynum" hydraulics company?

Received the new "GT Bynum" ad today:

Nice photo, but I noticed the dog doesn't appear to have a City license:

Which leads me to wonder:

(1) Is Mr. Bynum's daschund less than four months old?
(2) Does the dog have a microchip or tattoo?

If the answer is no, then Mr. Bynum may be guilty of violating the Tulsa City Ordinances:

quote:
SECTION 101. OFFENSES
A. It shall be an offense under the terms of this chapter for any owner within
the corporate limits of the City of Tulsa to:
1. Own, keep, possess, harbor or allow to remain on premises under his control any dog or cat over four (4) months old, unless such dog or cat has a current license and a current vaccination against rabies as required in this title;
*     *     *
7. Remove or fail to affix or attach to collars or harnesses worn by dogs or cats a current license tag as provided in this chapter, unless the dog or cat is permanently and uniquely identified with a microchip implant or tattoo. Every person violating this subparagraph 101.A.7 shall be guilty of an offense and, upon conviction, shall be punished by a fine not exceeding TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00), excluding costs, fees and
assessments;

A recent Tulsa World article reported the issue of problem pet owners who do not license their animals.  Article here.

For those curious, here's a photo of a City license:

I'd like Mr. Bynum to answer these questions.  Especially given his posturing for residency status checks for everyone committing a crime.

When did tagging your pet become a political issue?  It's pretty straight forward.
