If you are unsure of your current council district, look here.

Questionnaires were sent to all of the candidates, those responses can be found by clicking their name:

The current candidates are:
   Jack Henderson(i) (no response)
Bernard Lewis
    Mike Mcconnell (no response)

Thoughts, opinions?

I'm not convinced Henderson deserves another term.  I got a call from an Emanuel Lewis campaign and I would like to hear more about him and Mike McConnell from local Democrats.  Does anyone have an opinion they are willing to share?

RecycleMichael

I am very impressed with Emmanual Lewis. I like Jack personally, but Lewis is very sharp. I don't know McConnell.
Power is nothing till you use it.

Thank you Blindnil and RM.  I would like to see these guys debate.  Are there any events planned where I can see them?

I like that Lewis' campaign called my home.  Shows some organization. Curious if he's written an excessive amount of subprimes or if he has worked against predatory lending?

Try calling the office of Jubar Shumate.. State Rep for District 73..

I think he may have all the info.

Curiously, the Tulsa World "news" article mentions that Mr. Lewis is a Mortgage Banker, yet omits for WHOM he works...

Hmmmmh?

BOK??

or,

F&M??

The local Power Establishment would love to knock off both Henderson and Turner, the sole survivors of the much depleted and derided "Gang of Five" Reformers who were bought off (Sam the Sham Roop), and Re-Called (Medlock and Mautino), knocked-off (Mautino), and sucker-punched (Medlock).

My estimation is that Mr. Lewis is the Manchurian Candidate fronting for the local Power Establishment.

He's already married into control by the local power structure, with his wife in the employ of one of the local nexus of power.

And, he says he was FOR the Kaiser River Tax, although his North Tulsa contituency was adamantly and decisively opposed.

Why so fearless, going against a decisive consensus of his constituency who were AGAINST the Kaiser River Tax?

Maybe he's not afraid to voice his support for a lost cause because he has a rich, powerful "Uncle" and his name ain't Tom.

Look for money to rain down on his campaign to oust north Tulsa stalwart Jack Henderson.

Well I live in District 1 and I supported the River Tax as did a good number of my neighbors, but a read of Mr. Lewis' responses to the TulsaNow Questionnaire tells me I can't support him.

He says, "There had to be a standard to which the movement of illegal's [sic] into the area has to be stopped though." I say, "Next."

How about Mike McConnell?  Would anyone be willing to share their opinion on McConnell?

Lewis was FOR the Kaiser River Tax.

Henderson was Adamantly against the Kaiser River Tax.

The constituents in District 1 were ADAMANTLY against the Kaiser River Tax.

I hope Mr. Henderson mentions early and often that Mr. Lewis supported picking the pockets of District #1's poorest people to move sand around in the Arkansas River to benefit rich South Tulsa white boys.

Henderson got it RIGHT during the Kaiser River Tax promotion:

There was NOTHING in it for north Tulsa.

That issue alone will make Mr. Lewis a non-starter, for sure.

Then, stick a fork in Lewis; he's DONE.

I live in District 1.  There were hundreds of people at my polling place that voted yes on the River Tax.  I recall something like 400+ Yes votes.  We aren't all cut from the same cloth.

Does anyone have anything to say about Mike McConnell?

Sure you weren't voting in SOUTH Tulsa?

The Kaiser River Tax got clobbered in North Tulsa.

Like NO 70%/ YES 30% overall.  Massacred.

For instance at the Rudisell Library the vote was:

Failed:

94 (Yes, Tax me More)
460 (Hell, No!)

You are probably right Bear.  I probably reversed the numbers.

You know, I'm tempted to vote for Henderson just to show our CEO, excuse me I mean Mayor, I didn't like the way she talked to him.

But does anyone have an opinion on McConnell?

But, you have to hand it to her, she was excellent in her Hatchet Job on Jack.

That gal is cunning.

Making Jack Henderson look so small and petty for wanting a big office.....

I'm glad that John Eagleton still has some cojones to take on Her Royal Highness, and take up for Jack, his ally in the No River Tax campaign.

The local power establishment gets real nervous when dissident white bread South Tulsans ally with North Tulsa former NAACP leaders.

They feel the ground shifting beneath their feet of clay.

Tectonic plate shift?

Rico

Well let's tally up the support......

Emanuel Lewis Campaign contributions $14,600.

Of this amount $12,100. came from individuals that are not part of District 1.
Add the $500. that he put in the kitty. and you have a grand total of 12,600.

That means the small donations that do not include the address amount to $2000.
That is... if those small donations came from District 1 residents.

Many of the out of District contributions came from very prestigious addresses in Mapleridge and the like....

Bet it just warms the heart of the folk in Henderson's District that Mapleridge is trying to buy them a better Councilor.

One that won't want a better office... or a pay raise... Just a small tax increase for a River or some other project

louiemoore

TextTextTextI am for Mike McConnell for City Council District 1. We really do need a change. Hopefully he will get something done for north Tulsa without controversy all the time.
