City councilors to look at drilling for oil and gas to pay for roads. Interesting ....

The amount of time and money it will take to get the required government permits, build infrastructure, rigs, storage, pipeline, etc., etc., etc., is prohibitive. This is one of the silliest ideas I've seen from the council in a while. By the time we even see a penny from drilling our streets will be gravel.

Not to mention drilling in Mohawk would ruin the park's atmosphere.

I think its an option as well, especially with prices so high, who knows if the area is fully depleted, I'm no geologist.

Drilling within city limits is very common and there would be no expense to the city, only revenue if they owned minerals.  The oil & gas company would bear the costs of operations.

If there is potential there, it's is an opportunity for money.  Plus, the initial drilling can be messy, but once its up and running and producing, a good operator will protect the surface and make it less intrusive.

At least they are thinking of something OTHER than taxes!

I like the idea, but I have no clue if it is cost prohibitive.  I agree though, it is an alternatvie to taxes.

holy **** you are a ****ing idiot.  Look up horizontal drilling sometime.

The go lookup drilling on DFW airport.  Chesapeake paid out the wazoo for drilling rights.

There is so much potential roalty money under tulsa, and you think it is prohibitive?  and I suppose you think we should just tax ourselves to death?  man **** you.

You, sir, have a dirty mouth.

Chicken Little

Technology aside, you can't just go drilling anywhere you want.  Yesterday's   articlehints at a potential problem.  Frankly, I think I own my mineral rights, but there's still a chance they belong to someone else.  Either way, I'm certain they don't belong to the City.  According to the article, even the City isn't sure that the own the mineral rights to their own properties.

But, if they can get the mineral rights for large areas straightened out, then directional drilling would increase the rate of extraction and allow for clustering of wellheads.  You could pick a remote corner of Mohawk, screen it off, and reach every part of the park at any depth.  No one would ever there was extraction going on.

It's not a bad idea, but we don't need to see pumpjacks...that's so OKC.

Indians be having the Mineral Rights.....

The Native Americans, by treaty, have a cloud on the titles of all the lands in OK including Tulsa.  The presumption of mineral rights would be a moot question.  Their smoke shops and casinos are drilling into the bottom pockets of the people as the people believe this is the way to redistribute the wealth.

Above the games they should be required to post a sign advising the players as to the amount the house keeps when the people play for amusement and add a small % for the infrastructure needed to get the people to the smoke shops and casinos.

We could collect enough to do away with local taxes if we annexed all these businesses under urban renewal.
Today we stand in ecstasy and view that we build today'

they don't need your mineral rights.  They will just tax the **** out of you on the royalties you get.  you see, the city will get theirs one way or another.

OKC makes 3.4 Million a year off oil and gas leases....

Even if we double that, it still leaves us WAY short.

3.4 mil is better than 0 mil.  3.4 would go a LONG way towards the street maintenance bill.

Hometown

The oil industry is going great guns.  Folks are making some serious money.  I don't understand why Tulsans aren't falling over each other trying to get a piece of the action.  I mean, we can't even compete with OKC.  Did you hear Devon's plans for their new headquarters in OKC?  Tulsa is like ... let's recruit another call center.  STUPID!  Tulsa is terminally stupid!  Oops, I mean missing out on some great opportunities.

tulsasignnazi

Drilling for oil within City limits?  Dat's crazeeeeee!  Tulsa's original oil tycoons are rolling in their graves.  Everybody knows dirty oil wells belong in Glenpool, not Maple Ridge.
