I had a chance to sample the brews at the Bite of Tulsa event.  I enjoyed them both very much.

If there were a print and clip info page on the Marshall Brewery website, so that those who are all street booster that way could make wallet size info sheets to leave with restaurant and bar owners, I would be one of those people who printed, clipped, and freebie marketed.

I also would like to suggest naming a brew with T-Town, Tullsey, Gilcrease, Osage or some other tippin' hat moniker.  It's one thing to have a "local crafter beer named blah blah" on your tap.  It's a whole other to have something that has your town's identity wrapped around it.

I'm pretty sure that was the idea behind "McNellie's Pub Ale" and "Atlas IPA." The beers seem to be named after McNellie's and the Atlas Life Building.  While we're on the subject, I have some other possible suggestions for future Tulsa-based beer names:

Cherry Street Wheat (hopefully better than Sam Adams Cherry Wheat)
Tulsa Crude (stout), as someone already suggested
Golden Hurricane (a pilsner)
Comfortably Cosmopolitan (Chimay-style)
Work of Art Deco (extremely rich, flavorful taste)

I'm proud to announce that Joe Momma's will carry Marshall beers on tap at our new downtown location.

Construction is coming right along, so get ready to come drink it up at Joe Momma's.

Had the opportunity to meet Eric, by the way. He showed me his place and educated me up on the process of making beer.

If you can get over there for a tour, you should.

Great beer and great comments about locals carrying the kegs. There's no excuse for not supporting the local brewery.

Great news JoeMomma!

I FINALLY got the chance to get over and try some Marshall Brew.  I only had time for a couple pints, but I fell in love with the MPA.  Low carbonation, crisp, real hoppy/bitter taste.  Damn fine ale.

I need to get my keg fridge back up and rolling and find a way to get a keg at my house.  I'd be the coolest guy on the block. [;)]

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, good things will continue to happen if my beer drinking skills have anything to do with it!  I'll pester the Colony to carry it (same owner... different taps).

I was very impressed with the sundown wheat I had at McNellie's and will definitely order it again. I noticed in that article you plan to have 4 core beers, please let that forth beer be a stout. Then we could make a drink with the pub ale and the stout and call it the "Tulsa Black and Gold"

Sorry OSU, no stout yet, but I will do one down the road at least as a seasonal offering!

skip the stout and go for a true american pilsner, a working man's beer...

every brewery makes a stout, and some can be really marginal... even if they are great they are always considered inferior to a guinness...

very few brewers make a great pilsner...
like a yuengling, brooklyn pilsner, or (im sure you know this one) victory's prima pils...

just to add, your joint looked great... impressive operation and tasty beverages...
well done...
you guys should be proud or what youve done so far...

cant wait until the bomber line and then the bottler gets rolling...

we're making an effort to drink as much as we can every thursday down at mcnellies...
we'll be ordering a couple of kegs very shortly...

no offense but i think overly local names are corn pone...

im fine if someone wants to make a subtle nod to the origins of there product but anything "tulsa" "t-town" "tullsey" is just hokey and just too obvious... not to mention some of those would be tough to market...

Just depends where it's being marketed.  Coach's "Boyd Street Wheat" is a favorite in Norman and sold at Coach's, Louie's and The Library.  Nothing wrong with a local name if you're staying local.

I disagree--when done correctly, it can be a selling point on its own.  My favorite--Polygamy Porter by Wasatch (out of Utah)--with the slogan "Why have just one" and "Take one home to the wives".  My husband collects beer bottles (yeah, I know--very immature), and he will buy one just based upon its label. It kind of like collecting match books or post cards, something to show where you've been (and had a beer).

brunoflipper

i said it is fine when subtle but hokey when overt... polygamy porter (yeah, i've had it) would be more of a subtle regional cultural reference... but still gets into the gimmicky territory...

I know I refuse to drink Boston Lager, St. Pauli's Girl, Shiner Bock, or Old Milwaukee because their names are too focused locally.  [:D]

Ditto on the pilser requests.

I was back in southwest Illinois over the weekend, and converted an upstate New Yorker to the local Stag beer, much to my surprise. I guess my taste in suds are better than I thought.

But the experience does cause me to echo bruno's sentiment that Marshall should make a  basic, refreshing, working-class beer. I love the local product, but I think we need a brew that the crowd at the It'll Do Tavern will like. You know ... the type of tavern that has two Hanks in the jukebox. The type of folks who remember when Falstaff ruled the roost.
