Man is it in bad shape...

Here is the good news.  I have heard that Senor Kaiser now owns the former Place One apartment complex.  Not that I expect anything to happen tomorrow, but I really hope this project happens.  I really liked the idea, in the Arkansas River Master Plan, of a benched trail in the creek embankment connecting the river to the former Boy Scout property (it needs to go all of the way to that "park" and not stop short of there), and thus Brookside. There also needs to be a new pedestrian access along Peoria  across the creek. It is dangerously narrow.  Furthermore, it is truly a (potentially) beautiful natural feature in an otherwise urban setting.  In an ideal world there would be a trail extending all the way to Zink Park, which is a beautiful park in and of itself.  Unfortunately now, it's not very well connected to the neighborhood from a pedestrian standpoint (unless you like walking in the street.)

I digress.  I found some pictures and took some I'll share with you.

That is exactly the type of stream setting which could put Tulsa on the "wow" map when it comes to city assets.  This is good news if Mr. Kaiser really does own the apartments.

It's "human scale".  I like it.

Still interested in the Elm Creek project as well, but I think the corridor Kenosha is talking about can be done for a lot less and it's location is incredibly desireable.

I have always liked Crow creek and it would be a nice benefit to the city if rehabilitated. Also it was cool to see a BMW Z8 in one of the photos not a very common car. Brookside is always a nice place to spot cool cars, I saw a Ferrari 575 2 days ago.

Not to be a conversation pooper but wasn't the Crow Creek plan stopped due to neighbor complaints about safety?

Something about the sunken jogging trails, lighting, and deviants with violent intentions hiding in the yards?

Like most plans, there were some objections to the original proposal, which had the trail on the north side of the creek.  Most of those concerns were addressed when the trail was moved to the south side of the creek, among other changes, including where the park was accessed, lighting and screening.  The project was a joint effort with the Corps of  Engineers, but then a little storm named Katrina occurred and the Corps effort was redirected elsewhere.

Most trails are met with wariness.  Concerns over personal safety and burglary, primarily.  The facts are that most of those concerns are perceptive and not based on statistics.  Sure, there has been crime on trails in the city.  I am not sure you can avoid that altogether.  We urge trail and park users to use common sense.  Walk, run, or bike with a buddy.  Always let someone know where you are and where you are going.

Honestly, if I were a burglar or otherwise, I wouldn't wait until a well lit, well maintained, well used trail is in place to  break into your house.  I wouldn't run down said trail, flat screen in hand.  The environment back there is much more conducive to nefarious activities the way it is now, frankly.

Nevertheless, you'll never get all people to agree.  I believe most people believe this improvement would be good for the neighborhood, including myself.

Disclosure: I live 1/2 block from this creek.

Thanks for the reponse.  I'm glad my information was outdated.

Any progress on this trail?  It seems with all the improvements to the river parks trail system this would be a great time to bring this one online.  I suspect this may be wishful thinking though.

WPA!? You know what that means!

Nice pics taken at a time when mankind had little knowledge of impervious surfaces, flood control, detention ponds, and compensatory storage....no wonder the area flooded.

It means stimulus money spent on something that actually made the country better and put people to work.

I'm sure even more damage was done this past week by the flash flooding.  I like the look of the rocks lining the banks, it reminds me of an English canal.  If the banks could just be repaired and restored to their original state and a trail built to connect Zink Park to River Parks that would be an amazing asset for this part of Tulsa.

Is that some type of comment regarding the current stimulus project? We can only hope the money will be spent more efficiently and effectively today than the original socialist stimuli back in WPA. SG, you been out there putting your initials in the inner dispersal loop concrete? It won't last. Corporations today don't make cement like the government and business did back then.

Does Crow Creek get Federal funds through the Corps of Engineers to enhance and drain? It should.

Yes, I think it's deplorable when the roads in the US are crumbling, and public facilities falling apart, we are canceling road projects due to lack of federal funds AFTER passing a nearly $800 Billion additional spending/cuts bill. I'm hoping stimulus version 2 is spends a lot more than 18% on infrastructure.

Agreed....but those programs were cancelled through process not intent.

The places where I'm seeing stimulus money spent in my realm of business, doesn't do anything even remotely close to putting as many people to work as WPA did.  From a business stand-point, there's great potential for my company.  As a tax-payer, it's a pisser to see where this money is and is not going.  The kinds of projects the government is awarding money to isn't adding a bunch of permanent jobs, and not near as many short-term jobs (like construction) as we were led to believe would result.

Just my observations, not anything scientific, mind you.
