i screwed this post up in a different thread...

a block from cascia/utica square a family was robbed/tormented... broken into at 4 AM and the family held at gun point while the house was ransacked... near 23rd and lewis...

ktul and kotv cover it but the tulsa world seems to skip over it... am i mistaken, did they cover it?

but then, you look closer and realize that there have been two others at 51st and yale and 51st and memorial just last week (the 14th)...
3 weeks ago, in march, there was one in owasso... a cop tells me that her advice is to "shoot them"... which is a nice thought but a little hard to do when you never hear them come in and wake to a gun in your face...

i hate to sound like a wacko but wow, welcome to the wild west...

I was reading about the different areas and crime yesterday.  pancakes is going on?

That stuff sounds like things you see in a movie.  What's happening to Tulsa?

Do we know if it is the same group doing it over and over, or some kind of trend?  Most criminals are even smart enough to realize this is out of bounds, beyond "just" property crime.  Generally, obscure crimes like this are one group - and when someone finally does shoot the SOBs it will be over.

Lets hope so anyway.

Well, if they ever decide to head down to Broken Arrow, the alarm system going off might dissuade them a little bit as well as wake me up..which means they will soon be getting a face full of pepper spray from a can so big you might confuse it with EZ cheeze. Eh, it's no gun.. but I am willing to bet they wouldn't stick around past trying to get one of the doors open, which is going to take them 5 or 10 minutes of kicking until they break their ankles trying to break through grade 1 deadbolts screwed into the door frames.

It'd be good fun.

These idiots have GOT to somehow know the people to which they do this crap. At least most of them. Every now and then one does get their head shot off.

This BS will never stop until we make some examples out of these punks. Clean out death row. Make the sentence fit the crime. If you get 10 years SERVE 10 years, not 2!

What were the comments the Whirled deleted?  Was it anything relevant?

The media does not even cover half of them. Parking lot hold ups are still going on too but when was the last time you heard about one.

How did the couple know it was the fellows who knocked on the door aksing to mow the lawn or trim the trees if they were masked?

Something tells me one of the robbers had been in the house before and/or knew the victims, because of the masks, and it sounds like they were pretty sure there was a safe.

I've got .40 cal hydra-shocks waiting for these a-holes if they can get through either steel case doors or a 2.5" thick hardwood door.

.......maybe somebody is inspired by the impunity that the criminal in 'No Country For Old Men' ran with.

Really though, waking up to that, i'd be like "Welcome to Bible Study, welcome to the foothill of ZION.  Uh, Hast thou come to take a spoil?"  Since I virtually dwell without bars and gates, like this people trust in, they might not bother with the lack of choice, but from a few copies of the KJV.

Yeah, the local media never cover crime, they're too focused on well-researched investigative journalism. (end sarcasm)

"Last year, 28,603 crimes were reported in Tulsa, a decrease of 0.47 percent, according to the Tulsa Police Department's statistics."  (TW 2-7-08)

I think 28,200 of those were reported -- breathlessly and without any context -- by local media.

Hmm a friend of mine told me her story today, about a group of 5 or so black youth walking down the middle of the street in her neighborhood Saturday, making lots of noise.  She thought it odd, since she only knew of a couple black families nearby, and neither had kids this age. Then they got up Sunday to find the tailgate missing from the truck parked in the driveway.  According to the police, there were several calls from her area for just that same thing.

I myself almost lost a digital camera from Amazon off my front porch just before Christmas.  I just happened to look out the front window after hearing the UPS truck, and saw a guy running toward my house from Yale.  As soon as he saw me in the window, he stopped, pretended to be messing with the neighbors trash, then walked back the other direction. A ways out, he turned, looked at me (still staring him down), and raised his hands in the air in a "What??" gesture.  This one was a white guy.

I don't know what it is.  We don't seem to have a lot of police presence.  Looks like we will have to start up neighborhood watches again.  And for the first time in my life, I'm thinking about buying a gun.
