Border Crisis

I wonder what would have happened if Bush had scheduled a round of fundraisers in Baton Rouge the day after Katrina?

According to the Obama playbook, a crisis of this magnitude will likely require another week long vacation soon.  Where will he go?  Probably California or somewhere in the North East.  This crisis may even require a vacation outside of the US!  Lots of golf, that's the solution, lots of golf.

When attacked by a mob of clowns, always go for the juggler.

It's a purely manufactured crisis to force the GOP's hand on immigration with mid-terms coming up.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Congress passed the Secure Fence Act in 2006 but never appropriated the funding to complete it.  The estimated cost was four or five billion as I recall.  Now Obama wants $3.7 billion to deal with the flood of children crossing the border.  Congress needs to be smacked down just as much as the President for this.

Don't forget how much was spent on the "virtual fence" that never worked.  This seems to be the proverbial football that just keeps getting passed around and nothing has been done.

So since 2006 we have spent over $1billion on a virtual fence to cover the border between US and Mexico, and all that they have been able to cover is about the north to south length of Tulsa County, and the coverage isn't that good. Now we are being asked for another $4billion as a temporary aid to cover just the last 9 months of the flow into the US.

JMO, the US hasn't done anything to stop the flow since Reagan signed the Simpson-Mazzoli Act in 1986. I don't know what the answer is, but something needs to be done.

There is only one thing that will stop illegal immigration into this country.  Everyone knows exactly what it is.  Nothing will ever be done to implement it.

End the availability of jobs for people here illegally.  The emigration would be as big a flood as the immigration.

And to do that, all that is required is that owners/managers/CEO's of companies/corporations that hire them are legally responsible - personally - and the crime is a felony accompanied by say $200,000 in fines per day per person hired illegally, plus mandatory prison time of 5 years per person hired illegally.

Problem solved.

I see Sarah Palin continues her normal process of being too stupid to know that she is irrelevant....calling for impeachment?  Along with some others, but she leads the pack.

Based on the current border "crisis" that her side put into law.
And Obama's handling of the debt - the one that was run up by $14 trillion by her guys.  And now stands at $17.6 trillion.  With deficits of about 1/4 of what Baby Bush's biggest/last one was.  Yeah - improving the financial condition of the country is an impeachable offense - to the Republicontins...

And Tom....poor, old, lame-duck Tom (Coburn).  You used to have a brain and use it!!  What ever happened to you????

Then we can work on them avoiding their taxes, speeding, changing lanes without signals, and of course texting while driving. ;)

That is the driver but its not just ceo's and corps. Its pretty widespread and difficult to trace. Unfortunately, charities, churches, are enablers as well.

Easier to identify the problem and blame each other than to solve the problem or make it work for us. Its ironic that our wealth and stability attract them and we don't seem to see that as a possible boon to the economy. Reagan did but today's conservatives don't.

The unofficial economy knows this and benefits from the increase in cheap, grateful labor and new cash customers.

Absolutely!

WE, as an unofficial policy of the nation, have invited them for at least 70 years!  If we want to stop them from coming, stop inviting them!

The illegal immigration issue goes back to after WWII.  Before that, there were so many poor Okies showing up in CA to pick fruit/veggies who were willing to work for cheap, there was no room for people from south.

I watched one previous small corner of the family involved with serious agriculture in CO, NE hire and help import people for that work - since the 50's.  Mostly because they are able to get them to work in miserable agricultural conditions that a whole lot of 'Mericans just won't do.  Think cantalope, sugar beets, sunflowers.  United Farm Workers.  Cesar Chavez.

We won't be serious about a "cure" for the problem because there is NO desire to "cure" it....it is an integral part of our economy that would create much more than a $3.7 billion disruption and extra cost to the economy.  So, the people doing the loudest whining really should just sit down and shut up!   But the loudest whiners are also the ones benefiting the most and that 3.7 would be just another small expense that they could keep in their pocket!

The United Farm Workers has had a "take our jobs campaign" for years now - and guess what - there is still a huge demand for illegals, since no 'Mericans have stepped up to the plate to do the work!  Surprise, surprise!!  And they will TRAIN their replacements!!!  Get them the same wages and benefits enjoyed by the illegals!  How can you get a better deal than that if you are concerned about unemployment and looking for a job??   FREE on the job training while getting PAID to work at the same time!!

Bunch of spoiled little whiners in this country!  Not to mention hypocritical, lazy, bigoted, ignorant.....

Well how about that!

President Obama seems to be taking every opportunity to get out of the White House these days, even if it means visiting Governor Rick Perry, so it's no surprise that he's embarking on the longest summer vacation of his presidency. It was announced this week that from August 9 to August 24 the Obamas will return to Martha's Vineyard, where they've vacationed every year except 2012, when looking busy before an election trumped family fun. As the First Family prepares to return to the almost painfully preppy island, here's a look at how you too can relax like you're the leader of the free world.

Perhaps he can discuss immigration with the housekeeping staff or his caddy.

I would need a long period of convalescence after spending even a few hours in Texas, with Gov. Perry. Probably some liquour and counseling as well. I hope it goes well for him!

What president hasn't availed himself of the perks of the office? An office that requires you to be at work everyday, every minute and suffer the indignities that local yocals hurl.

There already are many state and Federal laws addressing the issue of hiring illegal aliens.  They simply are not enforced.  I have a few tried and proven methods to stem the flow of immigrants:

I don't know about the first, but I'm pretty sure the second one didn't work.

That first one didn't work, either, at least not until they started shooting people.

May you live in interesting times.

Bullets are an effective deterrent.  I doubt we have the desire to use them though.

None of which are coherent.  Enforcement, as you imply, is a joke.    We choose NOT to for the reasons mentioned - it would hurt us more than help.  We don't want to stop the process.  We just like to bi$tch about stuff and blame it on Obama....
