After Nonbinary Student's Death, Schools Chief Defends Strict Gender Policies.
The Oklahoma school superintendent, Ryan Walters, said "radical leftists" had created a narrative about the death of 16-year-old Nex Benedict that "hasn't been true."

In his three years as state superintendent for Oklahoma's public schools, Ryan Walters, a former high school history teacher, has transformed himself into one of the most strident culture warriors in a state known for sharp-edged conservative politics.

Following the death earlier this month of a 16-year-old nonbinary student a day after an altercation in a high school girls' bathroom, gay and transgender advocates accused Mr. Walters of having fomented an atmosphere of dangerous intolerance within public schools.

In his first interview reacting to the death of the student, Nex Benedict, Mr. Walters told The New York Times that the death was a tragedy, but that it did not change his views on how questions of gender should be handled in schools.

"I really see there's a civil war going on, where the left is really fighting for the soul of our country," he said. "They are undermining the very principles that made this country great, our Judeo-Christian values and our traditions in this country."

Stitt and Walters have no humanity. I wouldn't let them walk my dog. Walters deserves prison.

This was a hate crime, pure and simple, regardless of how the fascist right may try to spin it.   And was not even about mixed gender in a bathroom.  Young girl using the girl's restroom, and attacked again as the latest of years of bullying.

And no, I have not forgotten a reply for the miscellaneous thread....

Might be time to answer truthfully, get a failing grade, go to court.

Teaching about Christianity is acceptable ONLY if other major religions are treated equally.  Maybe even some "minor" beliefs depending on locality.

Public Schools are not Sunday Schools.

'Bids opened Monday for a contract to supply the state Department of Education with 55,000 Bibles. According to the bid documents, vendors must meet certain specifications: Bibles must be the King James Version; must contain the Old and New Testaments; must include copies of the Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights; and must be bound in leather or leather-like material.

A salesperson at Mardel Christian & Education searched, and though they carry 2,900 Bibles, none fit the parameters.
But one Bible fits perfectly: Lee Greenwood's God Bless the U.S.A. Bible, endorsed by former President Donald Trump and commonly referred to as the Trump Bible. They cost $60 each online, with Trump receiving fees for his endorsement.'

And its made in China.

When Ryan Walters promotes teaching Islam, Hindu, Bhudah etc (spelling?), I might believe his religious freedom BS.

Is Ryan Walters trying to turn Oklahoma into the "Christian equivalent" of Afghanistan?

No thanks, I don't want it.

Walters makes prayer video, instructs teachers to show it in class.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A recorded prayer was emailed in an unlisted YouTube link to Oklahoma school superintendents yesterday, telling them to have the video shared in classrooms and with parents.

This is what the email to Oklahoma superintendents said:

"Dear Superintendent:
We are in a dangerous time for this country. Student's rights and freedoms regarding religious liberties are continuously under assault.

The newly created Department of Religious Liberty and Patriotism will be working to thwart any attempts to disrupt our Oklahoma student's fundamental freedoms.

In one of the first steps of the newly created department, we are requiring all of Oklahoma schools to play the attached video to all kids that are enrolled. We are also requiring that that school districts send this video to all parents as well.

Fox News Channel's "exclusive" report on how Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters will make "major adjustments" on how teachers present subjects like the COVID response, January 6 insurrection, BLM and Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter.
"We are driving out this woke indoctrination and woke nonsense that has been injected into the classroom by undermining Republican presidents and American exceptionalism," he said.
